Three out of four DRESDEN EXCELLENCE AWARDS go to TUD graduates
The City of Dresden honors outstanding final theses
On Saturday, April 27, 2024, Mayor of Dresden (Oberbürgermeister) Dirk Hilbert honored four graduates of Dresden's universities for the seventh time with the renowned DRESDEN EXCELLENCE AWARD for their outstanding academic theses. Three of the winners completed their degrees at TU Dresden. All of these theses are not only excellent in their own right, but they are also similar in that they offer innovative solutions to significant challenges relevant to science and the future of our society.
This year’s winners range from choreographic examinations to completely new ways of diagnosing tumor diseases, all of which reflect Dresden’s importance as a location for science, research, culture and creativity.
“I am delighted that we were once again represented and successful with very strong scientific theses at the Dresden Excellence Award this year,” said Prof. Angela Rösen-Wolff, Vice-Rector Research at TU Dresden. “My warmest congratulations go to Marie Hoyer from the TUD's Center for Molecular and Cellular Bioengineering, Lukas Theo Schmitt from the Faculty of Medicine, and Christina Pamporaki, a physician at University Hospital Dresden. They prevailed against numerous competitors with their work and exemplify the outstanding research achievements of Dresden as a center of exceptional cutting-edge research, from which the city also benefits.”
Since 2017, the City of Dresden and the “Dresden – City of Science” network have been awarding the Science Prize in four categories, endowed with a total of EUR 30,000. This is the highest endowed award in the City of Dresden. A total of 37 applications were received by the Saxony Trade & Invest Corporation by the deadline of November 10, 2023, World Science Day. 20 women and 17 men submitted their Bachelor's, Diplom and Master's theses as well as their doctorates and habilitations.
