It all began at the Chair of Acoustics and Haptics. It was there that Dr. Sebastian Merchel had the idea for the "drumbeam". Florian Helling, one of the three founders of akf-audio, wrote his diploma thesis with him. In this thesis, he worked on an initial proof of concept prototype for the drum controller. Together with Sebastian, Florian, Lorenz and Kyrill then applied for the EXIST start-up grant. As Sebastian wants to continue his work at the university, he is no longer part of the core team, but continues to support the founders as a mentor.
