Admission requirements
Prerequisites for the admission to the study course:
• first in Germany recognised university degree that qualifies for a profession of at least six semesters in Psychology or a related subject from a scientific university, where special expertise has been acquired.
• knowledge of English at level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The proof is effected in accordance with Rules of Procedure for the Aptitude Test [Eignungsfeststellungsordnung]. Notes to the required language skills
Aptitude assessment and NC (numerus clausus) selection procedures
The participation in an aptitude assessment or selection procedure is a prerequisite for enrollment in this degree program. Please note that the deadline for submitting an application may be earlier than the application deadlines for the degree program (see above under application deadlines). Notes on the application process
If, at the time of application, proof of the first degree qualifying the applicant for a profession is not yet available, the application will be considered under the precondition that 80 % of the credit points attainable for the degree have already been achieved based on completed module examinations or the final thesis and the colloquium (if applicable). A certification from the awarding institute of higher education (examination office) serves as proof of the above-mentioned academic achievements. The certification should also contain a preliminary average grade calculated on the basis of completed graded academic work. You can find the appropriate form on the Admissions Office website.
General information about the degree program
The CAN curriculum covers the entire spectrum of cognitive-affective neurosciences. It contains modules for the basics, methods, and applications of cognitive-affective neurosciences and can be supplemented with curricula in Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy or Human Performance in Socio-Technical Systems programs. Students can rely on an excellent technical infrastructure, including a research-dedicated 3 Tesla MRI scanner, multiple labs for behavioral experiments, as well as for psychophysiological, biochemical, and immunological research.
The course of study consists of eight mandatory modules, among them Cognitive Neuroscience, Psychobiology, Neurobiology of Individual Differences, and Cognitive Neuroscience Methods, and two mandatory elective modules from Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy or Human Performance in Socio-Technical Systems. Furthermore, students write a master thesis and complete a six-week professional internship.
