General information about the degree program
Geoinformation has become indispensable in today's world. Be it satellite-based navigation systems, surveying work on construction sites, the monitoring of complex structures, modern urban planning, the observation of the sea-level rise, or changes in the global vegetation - geodesists and geoinformatics specialists are in demand to record, evaluate and make use of geodata.
Geodesy entails measuring and mapping the earth locally, regionally and globally. Spatial information is collected with modern measurement technology both terrestrially, i.e. from the ground, and by satellites and remote sensing from space. Geoinformatics analyse, model and visualise this information so that complex problems can be solved. These range from calculating the size and shape of the earth to precision measurements in construction and industry, and to the development of geoinformation and navigation systems. Furthermore, geoinformatics provide data in environmental monitoring, spatial planning, and land management.

Occupational fields
Due to the manifold interrelations with the natural and environmental sciences, studying geodesy and geoinformation opens up exciting professional fields. These include the development and use of satellite navigation for cars, ships and aircraft; the processing and analysis of aerial and satellite image data; the monitoring of engineering structures and routes, or industrial measurement technology. Additionally, there are professional opportunities in the fields of geoinformation systems, urban planning and land development, real estate appraisal, and environmental monitoring. You will find relevant positions in both industry and the private sector as well as in public administration and with publicly appointed surveyors.
Alternatively, you can continue directly with a Master's degree programme. A Master’s degree opens the way to managerial positions, a career in higher administration, or a doctorate.
