International Day against Violence against Women 2025
November 25 was declared the "International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women" by the United Nations. TU Dresden also uses this day of action to draw attention to gender-specific violence.
25.11.2024 // 9.20 am - 10.40 pm // GLB 7-101
November 25 is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women (also known as International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women ). It was established by the United Nations in 1999 and is intended to draw attention to the widespread violence against women and girls worldwide. The day serves to raise awareness of various forms of violence - including domestic violence, sexual harassment, human trafficking and structural injustices - and to promote measures to combat them.
Over a hot drink and a pastry, everyone, whether student, cleaner or professor, has the opportunity to talk about the day and its background in the exchange room. All thoughts and feelings should find their place here, every reaction is welcome.
You are also welcome to bring along texts, movie tips or special music. Information material is also available.
Female socialized persons are often confronted with assaultive situations and sexualized discrimination and violence in everyday life. The WenDo course helps them to strengthen their confidence in their own needs and boundaries and to develop options for action together in order to cope well with these situations. Perception exercises, the use of the voice and the development of an inner attitude are just as much a part of the course as learning release and striking techniques.
The course will be led in German by Jana Böhm and Anny Reich.
Time: December 25, 2025 2.00-5.30 p.m.
Location: Will be announced after registration

On the International Day against Violence against Women, we are showing the film "Looking into the Sun".
In four interwoven stories, the experiences of women unfold over an entire century. The film makes visible the effects of gender-based violence in families. This ranges from tabooing, boundary violations and patriarchal power relations to the silent, often invisible traces that are passed down through generations.
The screening invites us to look together at what is otherwise often kept quiet and to ask questions about responsibility, remembrance and spaces for action today.
Location: Zentralkino (barrierfree entrance)
Time: November 25, 7 p.m.
By actively participating in the Unisafe research project, TU Dresden is addressing the phenomenon of sexualized harassment, discrimination and violence at universities. The workshop begins with an in-depth overview of key terms, statistical figures and the most important results of the UniSAFE study.
Participants will reflect on their own attitudes and possible prejudices. The focus is on the wide range of support options available: Even if not all those affected are directly affected by sexualized harassment, discrimination and violence, many find themselves in the role of "bystander".
In the sense of a joint assumption of responsibility, the participants develop concrete, personalized intervention strategies to actively and safely intervene in everyday university life.

Imagine sitting in a lecture hall and noticing someone being confronted with derogatory and offensive comments because of their gender. What do you think? What do you do?
Sexualized harassment, discrimination and violence are prohibited at TU Dresden. This workshop is therefore aimed at everyone, as it shows how to intervene actively and safely in such situations.
We will start with a clear introduction to key terms and background information that will help you understand sexualized harassment, discrimination and violence in their various forms.
Using examples from everyday university life, you will learn which contact points, counseling services and guidelines are available at your university and how they can help you in an emergency.
In interactive exercises, role plays and case analyses, you will develop specific intervention strategies. You will learn to recognize warning signs early on and to intervene as a courageous witness (bystander) regardless of traditional role attributions.

Antisemitism and Antifeminism are ideologically and historically closely linked. As early as the end of the 19th century, Jews and women were stylized as a threat by reactionary forces. In 1902, the women's rights activist Hedwig Dohm coined the term "antifeminism" as an analogy to "antisemitism" and regarded both as an expression of a common principle of devaluation towards "the others".
In the Lunchtalk, the ideological links between the two forms of discrimination will be named and their role in reactionary, anti-modern to extreme right-wing world views will be examined.
The Lunchtalk is open to everyone, regardless of previous knowledge. It will be held in German and will be organized by Keshet e.V.
Location: digital (will be announced after registration )
Time: 13.00-14.30
Digital violence is a serious social phenomenon: hate comments, stalking, cyberbullying and subtle threats are increasingly shaping digital communication. Anti-feminist attacks in particular aim to intimidate people and limit their participation in public discourse.
The workshop "Digital self-defence - courageously confronting anti-feminism" provides knowledge and practical strategies for recognizing digital threats, classifying their legal limits and initiating suitable countermeasures. Both legal and technical options for action are presented.
At the same time, the focus is on strengthening individual resilience: participants learn how to build digital resilience and confidently secure their action-taking capacity online. The workshop is aimed at anyone who wants to protect themselves from digital violence and develop solidarity-based strategies for dealing with anti-feminist attacks.
The workshop will be held in German and will be conducted by Nadja Gottschalk (referent for culture and technology).
Opferhilfe Sachsen e.V. is a support service for victims of crime, their relatives and witnesses.
At the Lunchtalk, an employee will talk about the situation of victims in criminal proceedings. What rights, obligations and support options exist? What happens after a report? How does an investigation or criminal proceedings work?
You are welcome to ask questions about the topic and the services offered by Opferhilfe Sachsen e.V. afterwards.
Location: digital (will be announced after registration )
Time: 12.30-14.00
All events are free of charge for participants. If you are unable to attend due to language or other barriers, please do not hesitate to let us know.
