Women@DDc Network Online Talk about Power Abuse in Academia
Breaking the Silence: Talking about Power Abuse in Academia – Join the Discussion!
Power imbalances, questionable research practices, exploitation of intellectual property, discrimination, or even harassment – abuse of power in academia has many faces. The power imbalances in academia and the resulting dependencies deeply impact the academic journey, especially for early-career researchers.
Together with three fellow psychology students, Jil Massafra, Master student in psychology at TU Dresden, developed a workshop as part of a research project on power abuse in science under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Daniel Leising. This workshop was piloted earlier this year, and from it, this more concise talk has evolved.
During this talk, Jil will take a critical look at the taboo topic of power abuse and identify key protective and risk factors. The goal is to equip doctoral students with the knowledge and tools to navigate this crucial phase of their academic careers with strength.
Join us in breaking the silence and building a fairer, more supportive academic environment.
This workshop offer is free and open to members from the Women@DDc Network. Please register via LinkedIn or by email to by 5 December 2024, making sure you indicated a correct email address. You will receive the online link (ZOOM) via email the day before the event.
