Relaunch Self-Service Portal
The self-service portal for IT services at TU Dresden has been given a new look with increased usability and improved functionalities. On April 25, the new portal was launched as an official web service of ZIH. In a transition phase, all services and functionalities will be migrated gradually. During this time, the new and the previous self-service portal will exist in parallel with cross-links so that all functions remain available at all times.
Easy to use, barrier-free and embedded
The redesigned and restructured user interface is in line with TU Dresden's current corporate design and is based on modern usability standards and recommendations that have changed significantly since it was first published in 2014. The self-service portal thus joins a series of previous ZIH activities to improve usability: starting with the revision of the TU Dresden central service catalogue completed in 2019, the IT satisfaction survey of 2019, and the following revision of feedback and knowledge management in the FAQ in the ticket system as well as the ZIH service descriptions.
With these steps, ZIH is reacting to shortcomings of the different access and information channels that have grown over time. In the future, further modifications will also be made to other systems such as the HPC portal. In addition to the standardization, a clear, functional and modern character was implemented with the revision.
The integrated concept, standardization and maintenance as well as the further development of the IT services and the self-service functions in this portal are continuous ZIH tasks. The main focus is to support core university processes efficiently and with high usability.
What is new?
The visual changes do not result in any general changes to the proven concept of the previous - less accessible and responsive - portal. Only changes in structure and sorting have been made that serve to improve findability. User data management, accounts and passwords, coupon redemption and the logout process are available as usual.
At the same time, existing services were improved and related processes have been automated. Among others, the invitation process for guests is now completely digitalized: TUD externals can register themselves by invitation to receive their ZIH login. Another new feature is the spam filter configuration for the mailbox, where rules for handling messages - even before delivery to the mailbox - can be defined. This development has just been implemented due to recent incidents.

Feedback welcome
After a successful internal pilot and test phase, the portal has been released for use. However, changes and updates will continue to be made on an ongoing basis, as well as the integration of further functionalities or services with self-service options. We are always interested in general feedback as well as tips and comments on the new portal at the email address .
