Data Center Infrastructure
The infrastructure of the two data center locations LZR and TRE is the basis for all IT services and high-performance computers operated by ZIH. As the core network location of the X-WiN, the connection of the TU campus and numerous branch offices to the German Research Network (DFN) also takes place here. In addition, resources are available for housing IT systems from the schools, faculties, central institutions of the TU Dresden as well as for TU-related non-university research institutions and partners.
Lehmann-Zentrum Data Center (LZR)
The LZR provides more than 1200 square meters of computer room space for IT services for TU Dresden and other research institutions in Saxony. Highest efficiency is standard here: The waste heat of the computers is reused to heat surrounding buildings.
Data Center Trefftz-Bau (TRE)
Critical services are mirrored from the LZR to the second data center location TRE and can be operated from there in case of a major desaster. In addition, formerly decentralized IT systems, e.g. of the faculties, are operated here centrally, securely and efficiently.
Research Work on the Operation of Data Centers
Teaching and research at the highest level are no longer possible without the use of energy intensive IT systems. ZIH focuses on sustainability – from the operation of efficient chiller-free hot water cooling to the optimization of conventional air cooling for maximum power density, operational reliability and energy efficiency.
