D-Grid Integrationsprojekt (DGI)
The D-Grid Integration Project (DGI) aims at the setup of a sustainable Grid infrastructure for all science communities in Germany. It includes the buildup of a Germany wide resouce network in form of a Grid as well as the provision of Grid services. Existing software components will be used and enhanced.
The German Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung (BMBF) (Federal ministry of education and research) funds DGI with about 4,69 Miollion Euros in a period of 2.5 years. The participating institutes and universities are supposed to co-finance the project with about the same amount of money.
ZIH is involved in two work packages of the project:
- Core-D-Grid: the setup of the first version of a core Grid infrastructure and the provision of resources
- Grid-interface to data and databases: methods for transparent and high-performance access to distributed data in a Grid
