IFCES2 - Optimization of simulation algorithms for exascale systems for the computation of the earth system model ICON
Exascale computing for climate projections
With exascale supercomputers, a previously unimaginable level of detail in modelling our Earth can be achieved, which gives hope of significantly reducing previously persistent uncertainties in climate projections. However, the massive parallelism and heterogeneity of exascale systems is a challenge for the efficient execution of Earth system models. In the research project "Optimization of simulation algorithms for exascale systems for the computation of the Earth system model ICON (IFCES2)", novel methods of parallel execution, communication and load balancing for the Earth system model ICON are to be developed and optimized.
