Evaluation Process
Based on the Senate resolution of November 11, 1998, the student surveys on the quality of the courses are carried out as part of the course evaluation (LVE). The selection of the courses to be evaluated and the task of ensuring that all course types are appropriately taken into account is the responsibility of the respective study committee. Selection and underlying selection criteria are announced within the faculty and presented in the annual report of the study commission or in the teaching report of the faculty.
Selection of the courses by the study committee
The study commission, in cooperation with the student councils, is responsible for determining the methods to conduct the surveys. The Center for Quality Analysis (ZQA) supports the organizational and technical implementation of the surveys and provides online evaluation as an instrument. The cooperation between the ZQA and the study commission is managed by an evaluation officer (EVB), who is appointed by the respective study commission. At the beginning of the semester, the deans of studies, the deans, the spokespersons for the departments, the student council and the coordination office of foreign language training receive a letter from the Prorector for Education of the TU Dresden on the implementation of the course evaluation as well as the current schedule.
Phase I
The EVB of the structural units also receive a letter from the ZQA, which contains detailed information on the organization and process of the LVE. In the first phase, the evaluation officers register the courses which are to be evaluated. Furthermore, teachers (including tutors) have the option of being evaluated voluntarily at any time. Lecturers can contact the ZQA directly or let the EVB register them after consultation. Registration takes place in due time using a form.
Phase II
Based on the registrations, the ZQA creates a survey link for each of the courses to be evaluated and sends it, including a QR code, to the lecturers via Email.
Within the survey period specified for the entire TU Dresden, the teachers can send the survey links to the respective course participants. Alternatively, it is possible to enter the access data in OPAL or to conduct the survey in the course directly. The questionnaires can be opened and filled out independently on any device (laptop, computer, smartphone, etc.). If there is not enough student feedback after the deadline, the lecturers will receive a message from the ZQA with reference to an extension of the deadline. The survey period is usually extended by two more weeks.
Phase III
After the survey period has expired, the ZQA evaluates the results and writes a result report for each individual course. The evaluation is only carried out on the condition that at least ten completed questionnaires per course and a valid declaration of consent from the teacher are available.
Two weeks before the end of the lecture period, the teachers receive the evaluations via E-mail from the ZQA. These are then to be discussed with the course participants. At the same time, the ZQA provides the evaluation officers with the individual evaluations of the teachers along with aggregated evaluations on a CD, provided the teachers have agreed to it. The evaluation officers are obliged to maintain data protection and send the results to the study commission. Finally, these evaluations should be discussed in the committee and an internal discussion process should be encouraged.
