Application
You would like to apply for partial studies with ERASMUS+ at our department? Here you can find all the important information for the landscape architecture programme.
Application requirements
Necessary requirements for a stay are
- a consisting partnership agreement between our department and your home university,
- German language skills (Level B1)
- and a summary of the modules you want to take at our university. This summary is called Learning Agreement. On the website of the International Office you can find information on how to prepare a Learning Agreement.
Application deadlines
- July 15 for the winter semester - starts at the beginning of October
- January 15 for the summer semester – starts at the beginning of April
Application process
The application to university has to be done online via the International Office of TU Dresden. For further information please visit the website of the International Office.

Modules - Elaboration of the Learning Agreement

Following the tabular study plans you can see when the modules are offered (uneven semesters are winter semesters, even semesters are summer semesters):

Additionally you should use the schedules for the summer and winter semester to choose your modules. They give an overview on which weekdays each of the modules take place and help you with your timetable.
Before the semester starts all the current information on offered modules, for example topics of the projects, details of limited numbers of participants or venues, will be published via the Online Portal selma.
Central presentation of the project topics for the current semester
Projects are offered by any chair of the department for landscape architecture for any semester. In the field of Master’s degree courses students can decide on their own with which chair they want to work together on a project during the upcoming semester. Each semester starts with the presentation of topics currently offered by the chairs. Together with these project topics the relevant content of several optional compulsory modules for the semester are presented. Before the semester starts you can find the dates for the presentation of the topics on the website of our department under the heading ‚News‘.
Enrolment in art courses
The enrolment in art courses already takes place two weeks before the courses start. Information therefore and further enrolment periods can be found on the Faculty of Architecture’s website under the heading ‚News‘.
At the end of your stay
At the end of the guest stay at our university once again some formalities have to be done. Especially some forms have to be completed to prove the actual duration of your stay and your achievements. Please fill out the Confirmation of Attendence and the Transcript of Records (Learning Agreement Table E) and submit it to the departmental coordinator for Erasmus for signing afterwards.

Living in Dresden
Dresden, the fourth-largest city of Germany according to its area, is well-known for a high quality of life and has about 540 000 inhabitants. The state capital of Saxony with its climatically favored situation in the Elbe Valley is quiet near to the hiking and climbing paradise „Saxon Switzerland“ and the Kleinkuppenlandschaft (hilly plateau) next to Moritzburg. Moreover the many different neighbourhoods, an abundance of historically significant specificities and the comprehensive cultural range are just some of the reasons why Dresden is so attractive to students.
Student living
There are many different options to find an accomodation in Dresden. After the acceptance of your application you can apply for a place in a student hall (Application form). You can have a room on your own and share the bathroom and the kitchen with other students.
You also have the possibility of looking for a room in a shared flat (WG: Wohngemeinschaft), where around two to four people live together. Temporarily rented rooms or flats (Zwischenmiete) usually are furnished. The following links help you with your search:

Leisure time
As it is very famous and well-known, the student neighbourhood Dresdner Neustadt has to be mentioned. There you can find clubs, bars, lots of different restaurants and pubs, lovely small shops, a large park and lots of other exciting spots to explore.
Besides this neighbourhood, the city also offers a big variety of beautiful destinations nearby. The most popular destination for weekend trips is the Sächsische Schweiz, offering itself for climbers as well as those with a passion for hiking. You can go there by bus or train for free with the semester ticket.
Very well-known is Moritzburg with its castle and charming surroundings as well. The historical hunting ground can be explored by bike or on foot while enjoying the varied landscape with plenty of ponds, meadows, fields and woods.
If you would like to visit the German capital Berlin, you can get theire by bus, train or most affordable by a shared ride (Mitfahrgelegenheit) within two hours. Leipzig, Bautzen or Görlitz are also worth visiting.
Because of Dresdens proximitiy to Poland or the Czech Republic travels to Prague, Krakow and Breslau/Wrocław are also easily possible. Cheap tickets are offered by Deutsche Bahn or Eurolines if you make a booking several weeks in advance.
Travelling
Flights
The Dresden International Airport links numerous places in Europe. However, Berlin airports offer the most affordable deals . A good connection between Dresden and Berlin provides the long-distance bus line FlixBus.
Trains
Travelling by train is pretty expensive in Germany. Nevertheless, it’s worth booking train tickets at least one month in advance, as generous discounts are often offered. This makes long-distance journeys within Germany and to surrounding cities in neighbouring countries worthwhile.
Bus
Bus connections to bigger cities within or outside Germany can be found via the long-distance bus line FlixBus. Cheap deals can be made as well if you book in time.
The TU Dresden Semester Ticket
For students from TU Dresden the student ID is also valid as a Semester Ticket. So you can use busses and trams in Dresden with it. Furthermore you can travel by busses and regional trains (RB, RE) within Saxony for free! That’s a privilege one should absolutely take advantage of.

Also Studentenwerk Dresden (student union) provides valuable information regarding student financing, living and cultural offers.

What else does TU Dresden offer?
At TU Dresden a big variety of affordable sports courses is available for students. The enrolment takes place online at the beginning of the semester. Please visit the University Sports Centre for further information.
TU Dresden also offers lots of different language courses – but make sure to sign up in time right at the beginning of the semester.
The university programme Studium Generale provides students with lots of possibilities to attend lectures and seminars in different disciplines and thus establish interdisciplinary references to their own regular studies.
The Erasmus Initiative of TU Dresden regularly organizes cultural evenings/nights, parties and always has an open ear for all Erasmus students and those that are interested.
Dresden for Landscape Architects
Dresden is especially suitable for landscape architects because of its varied surrounding and numerous parks in and near the city.

- The Grand Garden of Dresden
While exploring the city you will also find lots of modernly designed small places and squares.
Internship in Dresden/Germany
Many Erasmus students decide to do an internship in an office in Germany after finishing their semester. It should be noted that an internship is possibly not paid and in most cases a good knowledge of German is required.
The Internship Exchange of the Faculty of Architecture currently provides vacancies for internships in the field of landscape architecture and architecture. Additional information and experience reports provides the Internship Office (Praktikantenamt, Hül/O/458, Frau Dr.-Ing. Romy Hanke).
