Construction Industry East Award" for Josiane Giese
Future solutions for construction: "Construction Industry East Award" presented
Promoting young talent and rewarding performance is an important signal for securing the future, especially in difficult corona times. With this in mind, the Bauindustrieverband Ost e. V. awarded its industry prize to graduates in civil engineering and architecture for the 14th time. For reasons of health protection, the honour took place, as it did last year, as part of the association's internal meeting of the Human Resources Development Committee on 9 November 2021 in Leipzig.
"This year's award winners have addressed central future issues of construction and urban development in their work. In doing so, the award-winning graduates provide an important bridge from academia to practice. The award winners also impressively depict the challenges facing the industry and society: on the one hand, the requirements for resource-saving construction and renovation, on the other hand, the structural change in rural regions and the need to create innovation spaces outside the conurbations.
We are pleased to award these future- and practice-oriented theses, which stand for the diverse range of construction and thus demonstrate the attractiveness of the occupational profiles in the construction sector," explained Jörg Muschol, President of the Bauindustrieverband Ost e. V.".
The winner in the civil engineering category, Nina Josiane Giese, focused on the climate and resource protection of construction in her diploma thesis "Experimentelle Untersuchung einer carbonbetonverstärkten Plattenbrücke". For the first time, this diploma thesis at the Institute of Concrete Structures at the Technische Universität Dresden implemented the performance of the composite material carbon concrete on a bridge structure and demonstrated the effectiveness of the strengthening measure. The successful application of the innovative carbon concrete reinforcement in bridge construction represents an important contribution to further research and the establishment of this construction method in practice.
How can shrinking regions successfully resist structural change and which urban structures are sustainable? In the "Architecture" category, the Master's thesis by Quentin Pagés on "Haben wir noch Zeit(z)? – Neuer Impuls für eine schrumpfende Stadt" received an award.
The annual "Bauindustrie Ost Prize" is endowed with 2,000 euros.
The Bauindustrieverband Ost e. V. represents the interests of 260 construction companies with 20,000 employees in the states of Berlin, Brandenburg, Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt.
