Teaching at the Chair of Forest Protection includes the basic and practical applications of biotic forest protection (insects, their damage and natural enemies), the causes, mitigation and avoidance of anthropogenic and abiotic risk factors in forests (wildfires, storm, snow) as well as in the field of construction wood pests (wood preservation).

Important topics

Bachelor degree

The basics on abiotic risk factors (snow, storm, wildfire) are already taught in the first bachelor semester. In the fourth semester students will learn about biotic agents that are relevant in forestry, which are complemented by practical aspects in the fifth semester and advanced entomological knowledge in the sixth semester.

Master degree

In the Forest Sciences master degree the scientific skills of our students are broadened by a two-semester course, in which own data are recorded, analysed and then presented in a publication draft. Applied knowledge on damage and pest organisms on stored wood and wood in construction as well as on methods of chemical and physical wood preservation is taught within the Wood Science and Technology master degree.

All module materials can be found on OPAL. Registration for field trips and seminars as well as the distribution of important information are also done via OPAL.
