Title, content and qualification objectives
Title: Monitoring, prognosis and regulation of biotic risk factors in forests
Content: Identification and recording of biotic risk factors and damage, as well as their natural regulation, in forests including timber stored in forests.
Qualification objectives: Students will gain competences in the applied detection, observation and recording of biotic damage, risk factors and their natural regulation as well as in the diagnosis and understanding of corresponding objects and processes. They will develop practical knowledge in identifying species, also by using various related objects, are able to make decisions in practice under guidance and to implement practical forest protection measures and wood preservation measures regarding timer stored in forests as well as the necessary reporting.

Requirements for attendance
Knowledge on autecology and synecology of forest tree species as well as on biological processes and habitat usage of flora and fauna of forests, understanding of complex biological-ecological relationships, ability to record and interpret anatomy, morphology and physiology of plants and animals, basic competences on biotic risk factors in forests as taught in the FOBF 04, FOBF 17 and FOBF 19 modules.
Usability
This module is one out of 25 interdisciplinary elective modules of the Forest Sciences bachelor degree, of which modules have to be chosen according to § 26 paragraph 3 sentence 2 of the examination regulations.
Requirements for credit points
Credits points are gained, if the module's exam is passed. This exam consists of:
- an oral exam (30 minutes) and
- a written exam (120 minutes).
Credit points and grades
Students can gain 5 ECTS by passing this module. The module grade is the weighted average of the grades of the two exam parts:
- 30% exam on the identification of species and related objects
- 70% written exam.
Module frequency and duration
This one-semester module is offered in each summer semester.
Workload
The total workload is 150 hours.
