Program Content

The Industrial Engineering and Management degree program is characterized by its interdisciplinary focus. You will acquire broad knowledge in economics and engineering as well as methods that will enable you to gain an overview of interrelated technical and economic issues and solve problems at the intersection of business, natural sciences, and technology. At the same time, you’ll have the opportunity to specialize in a way that is second to none, tailored to your individual interests.

You have considerable freedom to combine modules from Business Administration and Economics, Business Information Systems, and engineering, and to integrate them into one of the many specializations that you can explore in depth according to your own preferences.

Study Abroad

Would you like to study abroad for a semester or longer? No problem—the Faculty of Business and Economics maintains numerous contacts and partnerships with universities abroad. The Erasmus program alone currently includes over 60 partner universities. In addition, the faculty and TU Dresden have contacts with universities from virtually every part of the world.

Transferring credits earned abroad is straightforward thanks to the use of Learning Agreements and the flexible elective-required course structure. Financial support is also available. In addition to the PROMOS scholarships awarded at the university level, the Prof. Endriss Prize has for years provided funding in a targeted manner for study abroad stays by students in the Faculty of Business and Economics.

After Graduation

Graduates of Industrial Engineering and Management are interdisciplinary and therefore in high demand across many sectors of the economy. Depending on their engineering specialization, they are prepared for leadership positions in industry, commerce, the consumer goods sector, and the service sector. Industrial engineers often take on cross-departmental responsibilities in logistics, marketing and sales, materials management, product management, accounting, controlling, production, and corporate management. Top graduates also have opportunities not only in the business world but also in academia, such as pursuing a Ph.D.

A quick note before we begin: All of these individuals studied the Industrial Engineering and Management program as it was offered prior to the 2024/25 winter semester. At that time, some course titles were different, and a few of the courses mentioned no longer exist. Nevertheless, their statements still provide a good impression of what studying is like today!

Where You’ll Study

At the Faculty of Business and Economics, you’ll study on the main campus of TU Dresden in the Südvorstadt district. The chairs, the Dean's Office, and the Academic Affairs Office are located in the historic Georg-Schumann Building and the adjacent Hülße Building. Many of your courses will also take place in these buildings. The engineering chairs, classrooms, and laboratories are within walking distance. All facilities are easily accessible by public transportation or bicycle.
