The TU Dresden founds the Center for Interdisciplinary Digital Sciences to holistically and synergistically connect Dresden's research on digitization for and in all scientific fields. By integrating 8 departments and related topic clusters into one organization for digital sciences, the cross-disciplinary treatment of numerous scientific issues around digitization gains a new quality. As a crystallization point for innovation and interdisciplinarity, there are bridging functions and interfaces to all areas of the university.

The Center for Advanced Modeling and Simulation (CAMS) will combine the activities in the field of method, theory and software development for computational modeling and numerical simulation in different application areas. Based on research projects of the professorships of Scientific Computing and Applied Mathematics, Fluid Mechanics, Materials Science and Nanotechnology, and Scientific Computing in Systems Biology, CAMS creates an innovative platform for simulations at the highest level.

The Living Labs Computer Science Saxony (LICOSS) will be an open, interdisciplinary department designed for interacting with the outside world, researching the cross-sectional fields of Mixed-Reality Systems and Cyber-Physical Systems and demonstrating them to the public in open experimental environments (Living Labs).

As the first construction phase of the Lehmann Center of the TU Dresden, which will unite the ICT-oriented research, development and also service of the TU Dresden in the areas of hardware and software under one roof as a crystallization point and home of the CIDS, the Computer Center (LZR) was put into operation in May 2015 with the installation of the High Performance Computer / Storage Complex (HRSK-II). The LZR houses the central IT systems of the TU Dresden on more than 1200 square meters of computer room space next to the supercomputer. Currently, the office and research building for the CIDS is being built.

In March 2021, Prof. Dr. N. J. Lehmann would have celebrated his 100th anniversary. As pioneer of computer development, he is internationally regarded as a founder of the crossover science between mathematics and computer science. At TUD, his achievements are honored, among others, by the Lehmann Center, which has already made an important mark with the Computing Center (LZR) and wich will become home to the CIDS with the planned office building (LZB). The new building will also create exhibition opportunities for historical computing technology of the TU Dresden.
