KAtLA+ kick-off event

KAtLA+
Joint teacher training program of TU Dresden and HTW Dresden starts
The KAtLA+ project started with a kick-off event this week at the HTW Dresden. The aim of the joint project between TU Dresden and HTW Dresden is to jointly develop and implement a new teacher training concept. This will open up a new career path for students at HTW Dresden: teaching at vocational schools.
The implementation of the project "Cooperative education in the technical teaching profession" (KAtLA+) focuses on three models. In the consecutive model, TU Dresden will enable the recognition of academic achievements as part of a STEM bachelor's degree and admission to the higher Teacher Training - Vocational Schools course. In the cooperative model, engineering pedagogy components and special internships are already implemented in the STEM Bachelor's degree program at the HTW Dresden, which should enable a seamless transition to the TU Dresden. As part of the integrated model, a degree program could be created in the future that provides for cooperative education at both universities from the outset. This would allow students to attend courses at both universities throughout their studies.
The project manager at TU Dresden, Prof. Dr. Manuela Niethammer, states: "The profiles of both universities complement each other perfectly - this cooperation fits in with our ideas of synergetic teacher training"
"With this cooperation, both universities are creating the basis for potential joint teacher training in the future," says Prof. Ralph Sonntag, Vice-Rector for Teaching and Studies at HTW Dresden.
The kick-off event was opened jointly by State Secretary Uwe Gaul (SMWK), Head of Division Petra Zeller (SMK), the Chairman of the Board of the TÜV Süd Foundation Horst Schneider and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation Hermann Mund and the Rector of HTW Dresden, Prof. Roland Stenzel. The project managers from TU Dresden, Prof. Dr. Manuela Niethammer and Prof. Dr. Rolf Koerber, as well as project staff presented the project.
Special thanks go to the TÜV Süd Foundation, whose support has made the implementation of this project possible.
