TU Dresden sees itself as a cosmopolitan and internationally oriented university. It is part of a worldwide network of collaborations in research and teaching. Thus, intercultural and international competences have a high priority in daily dealings with one another.
According to Internationalization@Home, the Humanities and Social Sciences department supports university members in gaining international experience at their home university and developing intercultural and international skills. In the following you will find offers for a lived welcome culture for foreign students, academics and international guests.
Int@Home - Students
The Studi-SPRiNT's intercultural training program aims to build intercultural skills among students at TU Dresden in preparation for working or interning abroad, as well as for their future career in a globalized world. The workshops prepare them for the globalized demands of the professional working world during their studies. This contributes to increased motivation to gain international business experience and a dedication to successful studies.
In particular, the offer is aimed at engineering students, but also at all those interested in planning a stay abroad (study or internship) with Erasmus + or promos.
The Award in Internationalization is awarded to initiatives and projects at TU Dresden that implement internationalization at TU Dresden in an exemplary manner. The award was advertised for the first time in May 2020 with a focus on special commitment in the welcoming culture. A total of 25 initiatives showed in their applications how they are committed to a cosmopolitan and international campus of TU Dresden.
Eligible: Students and employees of TU Dresden
Application deadline: annual tender

The Buddy Program of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences focuses on the intensive integration of international students and the promotion of cultural exchange outside of the ERASMUS environment. Throughout the semester, buddies help the international students of the School of Humanities to settle in their new surroundings.
They accompany them, for example, on their arrival in Dresden, support them in their search for an apartment and with general registration formalities, take part in free time activities and offer assistance in setting up the timetable. In this way, both sides expand their intercultural competence and get to know a new cultural area. Students of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences who have successfully completed at least their first year of study can become Buddies.

The "Tutor program" refers to the concept that current students (= tutors) help international students and applicants. There is at least one tutor per faculty. Tutors are there for both, degree-seeking students (TU Dresden degrees) and non-degree or guest students (who are studying in Dresden for one or two semesters).
This tutor program aims to support international students during and before their studies, most importantly at the beginning, no matter if you start in the first semester at TU Dresden, or at a more advanced level.
The tutors offer foreign applicants and students at their faculty:
-
individual advice / support in a personal conversation or by e-mail
- joint meetings (tutorials) to convey information relevant to studies
-
information about important dates and events of the faculty, the international office and TU Dresden
-
implementation of further events, partly in cooperation with other institutions (SLUB, student council, etc.)
Further information: Current activities this semester
Every semester, the Cultural Office organizes a diverse cultural and leisure program together with cultural partners, including excursions in and around Dresden, discussion evenings, visits to museums, concerts and festivals.
Furthermore we organize culture and language tandems and conversational and international evenings. A highlight of the university year is also organized by the Cultural Office: the International X-Mas Party of TU Dresden.
The MSZ arranges tandem learning partnerships during the lecture period. The inquiries for a tandem partner always relate to the current semester and must therefore be submitted every semester.

Advantages of language learning in tandems:
- It's free and usually very effective: Students who want to learn the other's native language regularly work together as a tandem partner - usually 2 hours per week, 1 hour for each language.
-
Combines learning with real communication: Regardless of what and in which language the two partners talk to each other - at least one of them always develops their skills.
- Learning based on partnership: In a tandem couple both partners benefit and give equally (principle of reciprocity).
-
Autonomous learning: Each of the two partners decides for him/herself what, how much and how he / she learns - the partner's help is always available to him / her.
-
Intercultural learning: You usually not only learn the language, but also a lot about the person, the environment and the culture.
-
Ideal addition to any language course: The tandem partners can prepare or follow up on the course tasks together.
The aim of the scholarship program is to promote future managers and specialists who take on social responsibility, are politically engaged or interested, and who are actively committed to freedom, democracy and fundamental and human rights. Funding is granted for a period of up to two years (usually four semesters) for students in a master’s degree (or equivalent diploma etc.) at a Dresden university. The prerequisite is that the future scholarship holders already have a bachelor's degree or a degree in a traditional, single-stage academic course (diploma, master's degree, state examination). If the master program or similar is not completed at a university, proof of accreditation must be sent with the application documents. The scholarship is awarded at a monthly rate of 750 euros, for a maximum of two years. When selecting future scholarship holders, it is important to combine the concept of achievement with equal opportunities. Foreign students and people with a migration background are therefore not exclusively, but particularly, taken into account.
Next application period: winter semester 2022/23
