#41 Sharing is caring // Village fair 2.0
It's village fair time and somehow they always work according to the same principle: a group of (usually multi-experienced) committed people from associations, administration or the church plan and organize the festival in the well-known village festival tradition. There are beer tents, bratwurst, often also pop music, sometimes even as a live act, face painting for children, bouncy castle and so on. This appeals to some people, but not to others. That's ok. But is there perhaps still a way of organizing a village festival in such a way that it brings together as many people as possible with a wide range of interests and tastes, while also strengthening the democratic experience?
What if, for example, the village festival organizers were to invite children and young people in a targeted manner to open planning sessions in order to support them in organizing their own area or timeslot or to organize a festival within the festival? This would not only have a learning effect for self-organization in Saxony, but also a significantly younger average age at the festival site. We also think that this approach is a wonderful way of recognizing different interests and giving them equal space. This "partial idea" can of course also be tried out with many other people on completely different occasions.
