#73 Labyrinth of Democrazy
Our idea today is a labyrinth or maze that metaphorically represents the challenge of finding one's way in a pluralistic society. The idea could be realized as an urban installation, as an audio walk or as a theatrical event in a late summer cornfield or a small forest and thematically focus, for example, on distinguishing reliable from unreliable information.
A labyrinth offers a variety of paths and directions, some of which lead on, while others end in dead ends or lead back to the starting point. At each fork in the road, participants are faced with decisions that they have to make based on the information available to them. Here, for example, they could encounter different groups of performers who act as mythical creatures and offer guidance. However, not all groups could be equally reliable. While one group might work together constructively and consider all perspectives, another group might ignore suggestions from certain members due to factors such as background or status. At each fork in the road, participants could meet new mythical creatures or groups of mythical creatures and discuss and vote together on which advice to follow and why.
Other ways of playing or thematic approaches are also conceivable. For example, special nights could be offered in which the participants are only equipped with flashlights and the focus is on simulating and reflecting on decision-making under uncertainty and lack of information. Thematic days could also be organized that focus on specific political or social topics, such as the effects of error and mistakes on trust and the role and function of a successful error culture.
There are many different ways to organize the event, offering a wide range of opportunities for learning, reflection and exchange. We invite you to try out this innovative approach to political education and look forward to your feedback.
