#55 Multipliers of political education in cabs, salons or nail salons
In many professional fields, people have to deal with people. However, there is much more time for informal conversations in some professions than in others. For example, some people have probably had a long conversation with their hairdresser while their hair was cut, or with their cab driver on the way to the station. Today, we have an idea for precisely those professional groups.
The conversations during haircuts (or during the cab ride) are usually not that short and the topics of conversation could go in any direction. So it's not just the weather that needs to be talked about, but social and political discussions. That's wonderful, so what if there were small continuing education modules on political education in which these and similar professional groups could prepare for political conversations and discussions with customers?
We also think it would make sense for these professional groups to prepare themselves for challenging conversational situations and, for example, to think about and develop a clear argument against conspiracy narratives, misanthropy or fake news. After all, you can also be confronted with this when talking to customers. And after appropriate training, it may be easier to actively respond to such statements and stand up for a democratic position.
Such political education training modules can be offered freely or even integrated into standardized vocational training. Many things are conceivable!
At the moment, we think the idea is so good that we are considering implementing it ourselves.
