Over the past three decades, the academic engagement with masculinity/ies has become increasingly consolidated within gender studies and has also become an integral part of the fields of medicine, psychology, sociology, film studies, literary studies, and many other disciplines in Germany. The handbook initiates a dialogue between the established Anglo-American masculinity studies and the masculinity research conducted in Europe and brings together the most significant perspectives from the natural sciences, social sciences and humanities as well as the arts in a non-hierarchical, trans- and interdisciplinary approach. In doing so, leading researchers self-critically analyse and develop further knowledge about masculinity/ies that has been generated in their respective fields of research or art production.

The book includes contributions by renowned international masculinity researchers such as Daniel Albrecht, Holger Brandes, Richard Collier, Rainer Emig, Walter Erhart, Uta Fenske, Julio César Gonzales Pages, Michael Groneberg, Dieter Ingenschay, Björn Krondorfer, Katrin Losleben, Jürgen Martschukat, Wolfgang Mertens, Michael Meuser, Linda R.
