Analysing Masculinities: The Construction of Masculinity in the Works of D.H. Lawrence and John Cowper Powys
Claudia Lainka
This study is dedicated to the basic 'gender trouble' at the heart of the modernist novels of D.H. Lawrence and John Cowper Powys. By adapting a theoretical framework that includes Jacques Lacan, Raewyn Connell, and Judith Butler, the study offers a detailed analysis of male identity formation from the perspective of literary studies. It explores how masculine relations, identity strategies, and hierarchies are portrayed in literature and how the medium interrogates and challenges established subject positions and gendered scripts.
The project was finished in 2012 and published with Leipziger Universitätsverlag.
