Course content
On the Bachelor's degree course, students acquire practical language skills. In addition to a good command of a Slavic language (Polish, Russian, Sorbian or Czech), you will learn another language at the elementary level. Since summer semester 2022, we have also been offering Ukrainian as a language course for beginners and advanced students.
You will also acquire analytical, methodological and communicative skills and learn to analyze, reflect on and understand language-, text-, culture- and society-specific issues, mechanisms and structures. In the first year of study, you will gain an overview of the language, literature and culture of the respective Slavic countries in specialized academic disciplines. In the second and third years, you will deepen your knowledge in the field of "Cultural Linguistics" or "Philological Cultural Studies".
Cultural studies orientation
The Institute of Slavic Studies at TU Dresden is characterized by a strong focus on cultural studies. For us, cultural studies means that each sub-discipline is geared towards the description and communication of Slavic cultures as a whole.
