RELA Area Studies Latin America
The accompanying study course "Area Studies Latin America" (Begleitstudium Regionalwissenschaften Lateinamerika" (RELA) is an additional offering of the Institute of Romance Languages at TU Dresden, but does not have the status of a minor subject. It is available and open to all students from all faculties of TU Dresden, of the HTW, and of the Medical Faculty "Carl Gustav Carus".
After the successful completion of the required 18 SWS (credit point hours), the student is awarded a TU certificate for this additional qualification. RELA is particularly of interest for students who would like to engage themselves with Latin America in their future professional careers. Apart from a language training, RELA offers comprehensive background classes about this region, with highly qualified instructors (who predominantly hail from Latin America) teaching the political, economic, historical, and cultural aspects of Latin America in an in-depth way. Thus, this study course is intended to link humanities topics with economic and technical, engineering, or scientific areas and to engage in a dialogue with them. Furthermore, RELA offers access to up-to-date TV channels with numerous programs about Latin America..
RELA does not offer any scholarships of its own, however, on its homepage it posts useful hints for a social stay abroad in Latin America, i.e. a list of verified German aid organizations that carry out projects in Latin America or references to verified language schools abroad.
