Since the winter semester 2013/14, the Faculty has been offering a joint consecutive Master's degree programme Linguistics, Literature and Cultural Studies with elective sub-disciplines. Part of the programme is a new, uniform supplementary area in which subject-specific, general, and interdisciplinary qualifications are acquired, in combinations both within and outside the Faculty. These general qualifications can be acquired at the Faculty of Linguistics, Literature and Cultural Studies across faculties in the philosophical subjects as well as at TUDIAS, either in addition to or specifying the respective sub-discipline.
Short profile: the consecutive Master's degree programme Linguistics, Literature and Cultural Studies
- is a more research-oriented, modular degree programme comprising four semesters standard period of study and 120 credits. It results in a university degree qualifying for a profession, the acquired degree being 'Master of Arts' (M.A.).
- has as its qualification goal specialist knowledge and competencies that build on a relevant Bachelor's degree programme required as an entrance prerequisite. These skills enable students to independent academic work or teaching activities as well as to work independently in various fields, e.g. science, education, specialist publishing houses, media, journalism, cultural management, economics, and politics as well as in international organisations.
- facilitates this goal through a high level of general linguistic, literary and cultural studies qualifications, combined with a high level of professional specialisation. This specialisation is achieved by the possibility of choosing one of the five sub-disciplines of the Faculty SLK (English and American Studies, German Studies, Classical Philology, Romance Studies, and Slavic Studies) and by the additional focus on language, literature and culture.
- offers individual options in the newly structured supplementary area. The freely selectable sub-areas consist on the one hand of the specialist training sub-area, which consists of a Free Module and an Extended Free Module, and on the other hand of the foreign language sub-area, which contains six freely selectable modules. The courses can be taken from the Faculty of Linguistics, Literature and Cultural Studies, from the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Science, and from the TUDIAS programme.
- ensures cross-faculty, uniform crediting in terms of examined assessments, which corresponds to the crediting of the courses for teacher training with State Examination.
Information on the entry requirements and the application procedure can be found in the SINS of TU Dresden. If you have any further questions, feel free to contact your Academic Advisor.
