Suitcase internship - Hybrid teaching
The suitcase internship in the course of the Measurement and Automation Engineering lecture at the Chair of the same name went into the next round, this time in the sense of theme days, in which tasks are presented and another task is worked on at home.
This suitcase internship, also known as Praktikum@home (https://ll.journals.qucosa.de/ll/article/view/62), was created during the Corona period as an alternative to face-to-face internships and has been further developed and continued ever since. In terms of the theme days, it is now a perfect example of hybrid teaching.
Student groups of two students borrow a case and work on tasks at home using the Arduino (a small microcontroller with analog and digital inputs and outputs) and accessories in the case. A protocol and logbook are kept to consolidate the material covered in the lecture. This is followed by a theme day in presence in the Mollier building. The teams get together in larger groups and present their various tasks from home to the other groups. They then work on a task that is still unknown to them as a team.
The theme days are seen as a very successful internship and receive a lot of positive feedback from the students.
positive feedback from the students. This is illustrated by the following result from the evaluation.
New tasks for the suitcase internship are currently being developed with the help of Student Assistants. In this way, the practical course continues to develop and will probably also be established as a practical course in electrical engineering, in which students are allowed to build simple circuits themselves using the Arduino.
