Fraunhofer IIS: Dr. Peter Schneider appointed as a professor at TU Dresden
Dresden: Prof. Peter Schneider, who has been head of the Fraunhofer IIS Division of Engineering of Adaptive Systems EAS since 2011, was appointed to the Chair of Design Methods for Adaptive Microelectronic Systems at the Institute of Electromechanical and Electronic Design (IFTE) of Technische Universität Dresden (TUD) on March 1. The appointment bolsters the knowledge and technology transfer between non-university research and academic teaching.
Peter Schneider completed his Diplom and received his PhD at our university in 2010, and is now a renowned expert in modeling and simulation in the development of complex electronic systems. His research focuses on adaptive systems that can detect and respond to changes in the environment or in their own structure. Typical fields of application include flexible manufacturing processes in industrial automation or autonomous driving.
University Rector Prof. Dr. Ursula M. Staudinger recognizes the great potential in Schneider’s appointment to consolidate Saxony’s position as a leading microelectronics hub: “TUD has a long-standing tradition of cooperation with extramural research institutions, as demonstrated by the DRESDEN-concept Science and Innovation Campus. With the appointment of Peter Schneider, microelectronics will be catapulted to the forefront as a pivotal research focus of TUD.”
In his role as head of the IIS Division EAS, which he will continue to lead, Peter Schneider was involved in the preparation and conceptualization of the Research Lab Microelectronics Germany (FMD), the world’s leading research network for microelectronic and nanoelectronic applications and systems. At the moment, the Division is driving forward with the establishment of an Application and Test Center for Artificial Intelligence at EAS, which will become the central port of call for the development of AI solutions for small and medium-sized companies.
