The US IEEE (Institute for Electrical and Electronic Engineers) is the most important international association in the field of electrical engineering.

The IEEE has more than 400,000 members worldwide, in over 160 countries, of which less than one in a thousand can be appointed as an IEEE Fellow each year in accordance with the statutes.

The title of IEEE Fellow is one of the IEEE's highest honors, which can only be awarded to members who have made an outstanding contribution to technological progress and scientific knowledge.

Professor Ellinger receives this award for his research work in the field of high-frequency semiconductor chips for communication technology.
