Advancing cutting-edge research for future 6G communication networks: Innovative incubator for start-ups launched at TUD
The TUD Dresden University of Technology (TUD) and the TU Munich (TUM) opened the new "launchhub42 ComSpace" in front of the TUD's Barkhausen Building today, August 8, 2024. The modern modular building offers start-ups an innovative and creative environment and will in future also be the heart of the 6G-life start-up community, which was founded by both universities to drive forward cutting-edge research for future 6G communication networks.
Prof. Ursula Staudinger, Rector of the TUD, emphasized in her opening speech: "The launchhub42 fits perfectly into the strategy of the TUD and its Central Unit TUD|excite to become one of the strongest universities in Germany in terms of spin-offs as well as the strongest in terms of patents."
The launchhub42 ComSpace serves as a creative and stimulating "playground" for new technologies and concepts for spin-offs. Located in the heart of TU Dresden, it brings students closer to the latest technology and promotes the next generation of technology pioneers. It also aims to promote dialog between start-ups, researchers and investors. Founders from the fields of communication, sensor technology and robotics can present their product and project ideas to a wide audience here.
"The start-ups at launchhub42 focus on DeepTech in the field of 6G communication, including robotics, AI and the metaverse," says Prof. Frank Fitzek, holder of the Deutsche Telekom Chair of Communication Networks and spokesperson for the CeTI Cluster of Excellence, describing the main technological topics that users at launchhub42 will focus on. "In doing so, we are securing Germany's long-term sustainability and technological sovereignty. In the launchhub42 ComSpace, visitors can experience the ideas of tomorrow up close today. A showcase of excellent innovations - Made in Germany," adds Prof. Frank Fitzek.
The incubator currently works with 20 start-ups and offers a wide range of resources, including specialized training and unparalleled access to advanced technologies for emerging companies. It offers over 100 square meters of space for meeting rooms, office space and demonstration areas, all designed to facilitate collaboration with potential users and partner institutions. By fostering talent and innovation, launchhub42 aims to catalyze the transformation of visionary ideas into real-world solutions, shaping the future of technology.
