UMSICHT Science Award 2023 - Help shape sustainable future and discourse: Apply by February 28!
Press release of Fraunhofer UMSICHT, 22.12.2022
Climate change and global crises show it: Mankind needs change. However, changes that directly affect our everyday lives will only prevail in the long term with broad social acceptance - sustainable agricultural products, packaging, mobility, or energy can be mentioned as examples. This is precisely why it is so important to strengthen the discourse on innovations and scientific achievements and thus build trust in them. In this context, the basis for the discourse can take different forms: While some achieve progress in their discipline and communicate on a specialist level, others prepare it as comprehensible as possible for the general public. Only in this way can society as a whole participate in shaping a sustainable future.
Communication: Science and society
Since 2010, the "UMSICHT Sponsoring Association" has awarded the "UMSICHT Science Prize" and honors people who make research results in the fields of environmental, process and energy technology – the core topics of Fraunhofer UMSICHT – accessible to society. The prize money is divided into a prize endowed with 8000 euros in the Science category and a prize endowed with 2000 euros for journalistic work.
Category Science
Special attention is paid to the scientific level and the sustainable benefit of the work for the environment and society. Special emphasis is placed on the degree of innovation, the market and application proximity as well as on a well comprehensible and convincing presentation. In addition to dissertations, final reports, studies, but also white papers etc. are welcome.
Journalism category
In journalism, the media form is open: Print, online, audio, video. The clear and comprehensible presentation of a socially and scientifically relevant topic as well as the independence of the statements are important evaluation criteria. Published individual and collaborative works will be judged.
Pure concepts, photographic works, books as well as unpublished works cannot be accepted in either category for the UMSICHT Science Award.
