The module covers fundamentals and methods for the development of application-specific digital integrated circuits (ASICs). This includes the conversion of a numerical algorithm into a data dependency graph, the application of scheduling and allocation methods, optimization with regard to resource consumption (area, runtime) as well as the implementation and functional verification (simulation) of the ASIC.

Qualification goals:

After completing the module, students will be able to systematically develop the data path (register transfer description) and the control mechanism (FSM) of an independently selected numerical algorithm using a data dependency graph. They are familiar with the implementation flow, which includes both the automated synthesis of complex blocks based on a hardware description language (e.g. Verilog) and manually optimized digital data path elements.
