Credits recognition - ECTS
Information from TU Dresden: ECTS (European Credit Transfer System).
Recognition of ECTS Credits - Learning Agreement (LA)
Handling at the Faculty of Computer Science
Before your stay abroad:
- The AAA is only interested in the planning of 25 .. 30 credits in Table A of the Learning Agreement (LA) , as this is a prerequisite for getting the mobility grant.
In addition, the LA is intended as a document for the credits. The original therefore remains with you (or comes back to you).
At the Faculty of Computer Science, the accountability is decided using the form
Application for pre-examination. Therefore the LA is not needed for it (see below). - There are 3 phases in LA: before (Table A and B), during (Table C and D) and after the stay (Tables E and F).
- In Table A, enter the courses you have chosen .
- If you wish to obtain assurance on the eligibility of credits to be obtained, you must in any case fill out the form Antrag auf Vorprüfung developed by the Faculty of Informatics. Add the course descriptions from the course catalog of your host university to the Application for preliminary examination and submit all together to your responsible examination board or your study advisor .
- In the LA, it then suffices to tick " yes" at "I waive my right for advanced recognition. But I will still have the right for recognition after my mobility according to the internal rules of the TU Dresden:", i.e. the recognition of credits is not done via the LA but with the above mentioned form. To have the LA signed you send it (digital as pdf by email) to the Erasmus coordinator.
Nevertheless, by applying to the Examination Board a said above, you can in parallel obtain creditworthiness in advance .
Alternatively, you can also copy the content of the Antrag auf Vorprüfung into Table B. Then, however, the LA must also be signed by the responsible examination board. - If you do not want to obtain creditworthiness in advance, tick the appropriate box under Table B in the LA . The LA is signed by the Erasmus coordinator (digitally as PDF by email). Nevertheless, later recognition is possible, unless "significant differences between the qualification objectives of the completed and the curricular module" will be proven.
- If changes are necessary at the beginning or during the stay, the same applies to Table C and D, i.e. a possible application for a preliminary examination must also be amended.
- Send the signed Learning Agreement with your application documents to your host university (usually to the local International Office).
During and at the end of the stay abroad:
- As the courses listed in Table A may change or overlap with others, it may be necessary to record these changes in Table C. Accordingly, you must also change or extend the application for preliminary examination, if you want to obtain a guarantee in advance about the eligibility of your credits to obtain.
- After your return to TU Dresden, you apply for the recognition of examinations and study achievements on the basis of the Transcript of Records (ToR ) issued by the host university . Table E in LA is provided for the ToR, but it can also have a different shape.
If the Transcript of Records contains only the locally awarded grade but no ECTS grade (AF), ask the Instructor at the host university to provide you with a grade sheet from the completed course.
Information of the examination board:
In the case of incomparable grading systems, recognition without grading takes place, but only "passed" (paragraphs 12 and 17 (5) of the examination regulations).
See also the ECTS Manual and the ECTS Guide . - You do not need table F of the LA at our faculty - this is replaced by the application for recognition of examinations and study achievements. This means that even courses that you have not specified in advance in the "application for preliminary examination" can be credited to you if the creditability is determined by the examination board.
Upon your return, you should contact your study advisor to request credit for your achievements abroad. For this purpose, it is necessary to complete the relevant application for recognition of examination and study and to attach the Transcript of Records or a comparable certificate. Please also submit the detailed course/module descriptions (in English or German)! If you do not yet have a detailed course description from your host university, you can get it from the lecture list of your host university. The course/module descriptions from the course catalog serve as proof of the learned contents.
