For everyone: The exhibition about the Faculty of Mechanical Science and Engineering
Nucleus of Technische Universität; almost 200 years of experience in teaching and research; pioneering work on humane technologies for today and tomorrow: The Faculty of Mechanical Science and Engineering at TU Dresden has an eventful history, combining tradition with responsibility and knowledge for the future. The exhibition STUDIUM - ZUKUNFT - WIR in the Zeuner-Bau provides an insight into our diversity. The concept of accessibility for people with disabilities improves access for students, TU Dresden employees, pupils and prospective students, and in particular, the participation of people with disabilities such as limited motor skills, impaired vision or hearing.
The exhibition opened on 18th December 2019. It is part of the objective to make the main building of the Faculty of Mechanical Science and Engineering a showcase for accessibility for people with disabilities. A guidance and orientation system for people with disabilities was already installed in 2018.
The exhibition project
After the evaluation of the first sub-project with information about studies, research and the Faculty of Mechanical Science and Engineering, the exhibition will be extended by five showcases in 2020. These will show the research portfolio of the faculty on the ground floor of the Zeuner-Bau. From 2021, a further sub-project will focus on exhibits that can be touched and tried out and thus make research a tangible experience.
The barrier-free exhibition system is transferable to other exhibition projects. The underlying guide is available to the entire university.
The accessibility of the exhibition is marked, among other things, by the following:
- a complex lighting concept that ensures visibility
- contrasts or high-contrast lettering of the exhibits
- desk-type signs below the display cases ensure that information is easily visible, accessible and tactile for people with motor and visual impairments
- QR codes, which lead to the digital version of the information, make it audible, for example, and offer additional options for individually changing the contrast or font size
- Principle of two senses: every piece of information and every exhibit should be experienced by at least two senses - visible, audible, tactile ...
The exhibition STUDIUM - ZUKUNFT – WIR, as well as other projects on accessibility, were funded within the framework of the special allocation of the Saxon State Ministry of Higher Education, Research and the Arts / Special Fund Inclusion.
It is located in the building Zeuner-Bau, George-Bähr-Straße 3c, 01062 Dresden, 1st floor in front of room 255.
