International Alumni Week 2017
From September 24th 2017 to October 1st 2017, the interdisciplinary alumni week was hosted by the Institute for Structural Analysis and Dynamics and the Institute of Textile Machinery and High Performance Material Technology with a focus on "Status and perspectives of research in numerical structural analysis and high performance material textile technology".
In cooperation with the LEONARDO OFFICE SAXONY, the alumni deparment invites foreign graduates on a regular bases to participate in the international alumni weeks at TU Dresden. Since 2008, this event under the motto "Reunion and Scientific Training" has been organized including a scientific as well as cultural/entertaining program.
Impressions of the alumni week 2017:
30 Alumni of both study programs followed the invitation of institute directors Prof. Cherif and Prof. Kaliske; all of these alumni have become recognized experts in the fields of civil engineering or textile technology. The event´s agenda included scientific lectures as well as field trips and cultural activities at the alumni´s former place of study.
Lectures focussed on numerical methods and procedures, resource efficiency, and sustainability in terms of production and use of technical textiles. Numerous former DAAD fellows, who once participated in the EPOS master´s program „Textile and Ready-Made Clothing Technology“ and are currently employed at international companies and universities, contributed excellent presentations during the symposium.
In addition to the expert´s symposium, there were several interesting field trips, e.g. to the BMW plant in Leipzig, the Institute for Lightweight Engineering and Polymer Technology (ILK) at TU Dresden, the Leibniz Institute of Polymer Research Dresden e.V., and the Textile Machinery Hall of the ITM in Dresden-Dobritz.
Although not part of the actual symposium, the defence of Dr. Kamruzzaman´s dissertation thesis took place in that same week and was an outstanding event as the former DAAD scholar was able to complete his doctoral degree surrounded by his former fellow students participating in the alumni week. Dr. Kamruzzaman subsequently invited all participants of the symposium to join his evening celebration, which gave the opportunity for intense networking between alumni, professors, and researchers.
