Abstract
This thesis addresses the properties of colloidal particles and suspensions, in particular when the particles are aggregates of even finer, often nanosized particles. Such particle aggregates evolve during the particle synthesis by precipitation or crystallisation, they may result from the coagulation of isolated primary particles or can already be present in the powder which is dispersed in the liquid medium. The physical properties of such aggregates, e.g. their dynamic or scattering behaviour, depend on their morphology and are different than those of compact spherical particles. The thesis reviews the theories and methodological tools available for calculating structure-property-relations, it shows the corresponding results for selected aggregate types and applies this knowledge to practical engineering tasks. Readers will be enabled to independently conduct their own investigations with the appropriate models, methods and techniques.
