Global South
TU Dresden’s slogan “Connected to the World” correlates to the responsibility of making innovative contributions to mastering global challenges and thus achieving a sustainable social impact.
As one of the goals of the central internationalization strategy, TU Dresden is intensifying its collaborations within the “Global South”. As a result, an increasing amount of resources are being directed to supporting scientific cooperation with partners in the Global South and creating new synergies between science, business and society. In promoting these activities, TU Dresden increasingly focuses on acquiring third-party funding that is linked to the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
In this way, TU Dresden is actively contributing to the SDGs that the international community agreed on in 2015 to combat poverty, hunger, discrimination, and climate change. In this context, there is a prioritized need for action with people from the Global South who, on the one hand, are particularly affected by the aforementioned challenges and, on the other hand, urgently need to be involved in their solution.
On departmental and faculty level, TU Dresden already has several collaborations that have recognized the potential of scientific cooperation for the economic and social strengthening of the Global South. These initiatives will be strengthened and expanded. Potential areas for joint endeavors are primarily mobility, water research, and social change.
Based on existing connections the geographical focus is on the region of Sub-Sahara and India.
