Liebe Eltern!
The study "Data for deeds at daycare age (KitaGesund)" is funded by the Federal Ministry of Health (BMG). The Institute and Polyclinic for Occupational and Social Medicine (IPAS) at the TU Dresden is leading the study (director: Prof. Dr. med. Andreas Seidler, MPH). The health authorities from the cities of Dresden, Potsdam and Berlin are taking part in the study.
We would like to develop needs-based health promotion offers for children. For that we need better information. We therefore ask you to take part in our parent survey. We're interested in:
- your assessment of your child’s health behavior and well-being,
- Information about yourself - because you are the most important caregiver for your children,
- everyday life in your family.
We link this information with the data from the regular pediatric and adolescent medical examinations in the kindergarten (Kita) and on admission to school. This gives us a comprehensive impression of the health development of the children. In our study, the names of the children are not mentioned in connection with the data (examination data, data from the parent survey), but are pseudonymised1.
Footnotes
-
The name is replaced by a sequential number. Only the sequential number is used in the evaluations.
All families whose children come to the school entrance examination in Potsdam in 2022/23 will receive this letter with a request to take part in the study. Filling out the questionnaire takes about 20-25 minutes.
If you take part in our study, it will help you assess the health situation of children in Potsdam and throughout Germany. In order for the results to be meaningful, a high level of participation in the study is very important! There are no risks associated with participating in the study and you will not incur any costs.
Participation in this study is voluntary and has no influence on the school entrance examination.
Your data will be treated as strictly confidential and only evaluated for scientific purposes. All employees are subject to confidentiality.
You can revoke your consent to participate and data processing at any time and without giving reasons. You will not suffer any disadvantages from this. Please address the declaration of revocation to the collection agency (City of Potsdam, Department of Public Health Services; AG Child and Youth Medical Service, Friedrich-Ebert-Str. 79/81, 14469 Potsdam, Email: ). If you wish, all of your data will be deleted. The data processing remains lawful until the time of revocation.
You have the right to complain to the supervisory authority if you believe that your personal data is not being processed lawfully (contact responsible supervisory authority: Ministry for Social Affairs, Health, Integration and Consumer Protection of the State of Brandenburg, Department 43, Henning- von-Tresckow-Strasse 2-13, 14467 Potsdam; Email: ).
If you have any questions or would like further information, please do not hesitate to contact the coordinator of the study: Dr. Maria Girbig, postal address: Institute and Polyclinic for Occupational and Social Medicine, Medical Faculty of the TU Dresden, Fetscherstr. 74, 01307 Dresden; Telephone: 0351 3177-441; e-mail: (Secretariat: Ina Voigt).
In the study, data is collected by means of a written survey. If you would like to take part in the study:
- Please confirm your consent to participate by signing the enclosed declaration of consent.
- Please fill out the questionnaire, place it in the small envelope and seal it.
- Please put this small envelope together with the signed declaration of consent in the large envelope.
- Please hand in this large envelope (also sealed) at the time of your child's school entry examination or send it free of charge in a pre-stamped envelope ("recipient pays the fee").
As part of the study, your personal data (name, address, etc.) will not be stored and reported together with the research data (parent survey). Two separate study centers have been set up for this purpose:
- Survey office at the Potsdam Health Office (contact: State Capital Potsdam, Department of Public Health Service; Department of Healthy City, Friedrich-Ebert-Str. 79/81, 14469 Potsdam, Email: )
- Evaluation center at the TU Dresden (contact: Prof. Dr. med. Andreas Seidler, MPH; Medical Faculty of the TU Dresden, Institute for Occupational and Social Medicine, Fetscherstraße 74, 01307 Dresden).
Tasks of the Potsdam Health Office (survey body): In order to link your research data (survey) with your child’s examination data (examinations in kindergarten and on admission to school), we will replace your child’s name with a consecutive number (pseudonymisation) as part of the study. A list is created containing only the name of the participating children and the assigned number. This list (allocation list) is kept safe in the Potsdam Health Department.
The assignment list is necessary in order to:
- evaluate the data from the questionnaire without knowing your name and address,
- to enable the linking of the data from the questionnaires with the data from the pediatric and adolescent medical examinations and
- to guarantee your right of revocation, as this requires the assignment of the declaration of consent and the questionnaire.
The Potsdam Health Office will receive the study documents you have filled out by post and mark the declaration of consent and the small, sealed envelope with the completed questionnaire with your child's number. The declarations of consent are kept securely in the Potsdam Health Office (collection agency). The small envelope remains sealed and is forwarded to the TU Dresden (evaluation office). The Potsdam Health Office (survey agency) has no access to your questionnaire. The Potsdam Health Department also passes on your child's examination data (daycare examination and school admission examination) to the TU Dresden (evaluation office) for evaluation. Here, too, the name of your child was previously replaced by the corresponding sequential number. Thus, the employees of the TU Dresden have no information about which child is behind the individual data.
Tasks of the TU Dresden (evaluation office): The employees of the TU Dresden (evaluation office) open the small envelope with the questionnaire. The questionnaire is entered into a database together with the sequential number marked on the envelope. This questionnaire data is linked to your child's examination data (daycare examination and school admission examination) via the consecutive number, stored electronically and evaluated under the responsibility of the evaluation office. The evaluation office does not know the names of the participating children and no addresses.
The data collected in the study will only be used for scientific purposes and will not be passed on to third parties. After completion of the data collection and analysis, the data will be used in scientific publications. For this purpose, all data is completely anonymized1 so that it is no longer possible to draw conclusions about individuals. Your questionnaires with consecutive numbers (without names and addresses) will be kept in the evaluation center for 10 years in accordance with "good epidemiological practice" and then destroyed. The data is secured against unauthorized access. The assignment lists with the names of the children and the consecutive numbers are also kept for 10 years in the collection agency and then destroyed. All members of the study team are bound to secrecy. The provisions of the Data Protection Act in the current version are observed.

In order to make the data anonymous, the consecutive numbers are deleted. Thus, a conclusion on persons is excluded.
