PRINTerviews - Motivation with low to moderate alcohol consumption
What is it about?
The aim of the PRINTerviews project is to investigate the motivation drink less alcohol among people with low-to-moderate alcohol use. The research questions are:
- Exploring potential resources and barriers for drinking less alcohol
- Exploring associations of low-to-moderate alcohol use and subjective health, self-concept, and social identity
- Exploring interventions perceived to be helpful in preventing alcohol use and promoting a healthy lifestyle in the population at large
The project follows a mixed methods approach. Longitudinal self-report data of 540 persons with low-to-moderate alcohol use from the PRINT study were analyzed in a Latent Class Analysis. Three distinct classes emerged that were characterized by similar trajectories in their alcohol use over the past 3 years. Guided, semi-structured qualitative interviews with randomly selected individuals from each latent class were conducted regarding their motivation to reduce their alcohol use. The interviews enabled in-depth insight into the motivation of low-to-moderate drinkers whose perspective has been so far underrepresented in research.
