Summary of Lecture: | The course will focus on the crystal growth and crystal chemical aspects of modern quantum materials (e.g. semiconductors, 2D materials, intermetallics). The following topics will be discussed: solid-state reactions, crystallization from the liquid and gas phase, typical structure types and alloy formation, crystal structures of covalent and ionic solids, closed-packed alloys, perovskite and spinels, Zintl phases, Laves phases, etc. Interrelation between structural and physical properties will be highlighted for each class of materials. |
