J. Welzel & S. Jeung: Introduction to the Brain Imaging Data Structure (BIDS)
Sein Jeung (Biological Psychology and Neuroergonomics at TU Berlin)
The Brain Imaging Data Structure (BIDS) is a standardized format for organizing and sharing data. The talk will focus on the importance of data sharing, the technical details of the BIDS specification, and the challenges specific to different data modalities.
The BIDS specification provides a standardized framework for organizing data, which takes into account the diversity of hardware and software systems. It describes how to document study information, making it easier for researchers to share and integrate data with minimal effort.
We will delve into the technical aspects of the BIDS specification, including the folder hierarchy, file naming conventions, and metadata requirements. Following the theoretical background, participants will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with BIDS during a small workshop. The workshop will offer an option for participants to use either Python (MNE) or MATLAB (FieldTrip) to format an EEG and motion dataset into BIDS. By doing so, we hope to provide participants with the technical skills necessary to implement BIDS in their own research
