Important information: For the upcoming application procedure, we are switching to a digital application process, i.e. all documents should then preferably be submitted digitally. You will find the exact information here on this page from the end of May 2025.

The aptitude test for the Master's degree program is regulated in the aptitude test regulations and places are allocated in accordance with the selection regulations. Below we explain the application process in detail.

1. Intitiating the Online Application

Direct Application to TU Dresden for Graduates of German Universities

Do you have German or foreign citizenship and a first degree from a German university? Then start your application in the TU Dresden application portal selma: https://selma.tu-dresden.de/
After selecting the degree program and entering your data, an application number will be generated. Make a note of this for step 2.

Application for Graduates with a Foreign University Degree

If you are not already studying at TU Dresden or have already applied for a place a year ago, apply via Uni-assist. Please refer to the TU Dresden website for information on online applications.

The postal receipt of application documents by Uni-assist is waived. You upload all relevant documents (certificates and other documents) yourself as a scan in the Uni-assist portal

2. Filling out the Application for Aptitude Assessment

Download the application form. In addition to your personal data, enter the application number from the selma application portal.

2.1 Appendices 1 and 2

In Appendix 1 Core Thematic Areas, please enter all academic achievements worthy of recognition for each core area of the HPSTS degree program as well as the number of ECTS you have already completed. As a minimum, you must have completed coursework in 4 core areas, each worth at least 5 ECTS credits. Enclose a module description with numbering for each coursework, so that a clear assignment is possible, and enter the respective number in the last column of Table 1.

In Appendix 2 Fundemental Psychological Subjects, enter all the academic achievements worthy of recognition for each fundemental subject and the number of ECTS you have already completed. A minimum of 20 ECTS is required in 3 basic psychological subjects. Enclose a module description with numbering for each course achievement so that a clear assignment is possible and enter the respective number in the last column of Table 2.

Please note that you should assign coursework to either the core thematic areas or the fundemental psychological subjects. If something is listed twice, it will only be recognized the first time. If your coursework cannot be clearly assigned to the core areas or the fundemental subjects, you can use the following rough assignment as a guide:

• The fundemental psychological subjects relate to your previous knowledge in the field of psychology. In this area, your academic achievements in relation to the subject of psychology are examined rather closely.
• The core thematic areas relate to your previous knowledge in various disciplines of the HPSTS Master's program. This is a rather broad examination of your academic achievements in relation to the various modules of the Master's program in HPSTS.

For the recognition of modules, please enclose meaningful module descriptions. As a general rule, the more meaningful they are in terms of content and qualifications acquired, the better. The following applies to foreign module descriptions: If the language of the module description is not already German or English, a certified translation into German or English must be enclosed with the application. If no module descriptions exist, please have this confirmed by a letter from the university. For theses, please enclose a more detailed description of the content so that recognition is possible.

Applicants who have obtained their Bachelor's degree in Psychology at TU Dresden do not need to submit module descriptions.

The Faculty Student Council provides an example to help you fill in the appendices 1 Core Thematic Areas and 2 Fundemental Psychological Subjects, which you can use as a guide.

If the scope of the coursework is only available in semester hours per week (SWS), convert these into ECTS. 2 SWS are equivalent to 3 ECTS.

2.2 Proof of Language Proficiency at Level B2

The admission requirement is English language proficiency at level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Please submit your most recent certificate. A simple copy of the certificate is sufficient. For example, English at grammar school/high school, language courses from the Psychology Bachelor's program at TU Dresden (Introduction to English as a Professional and Scientific Language), TOEFL, IELTS, CAE, etc. You can check the B2 equivalence of your existing language certificates here.

Proof of sufficient language skills must already be available at the time of application. Applications that do not include proof of language proficiency will be excluded from the further procedure. Exception: If English is your native language, you do not need to provide proof of English. Please indicate this in your application.

According to §7 of TU Dresden's enrollment regulations, you also need sufficient knowledge of German (level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). If German is not your native language, please refer to the relevant information provided by TU Dresden.

3. Submission of the Application (by Post or via Uni-assist)

Check that your application documents are complete using the checklist in the application for aptitude assessment.

You will need

• the completed application form (from the selma application portal or Uni-assist)
• the completed application for aptitude assessment for the HPSTS degree program
• a copy of the Abitur certificate or a comparable degree certificate
• a copy of the first professionally qualifying degree in psychology or a comparable, approved degree program or a copy of proof of at least 80% of the academic achievements already completed (transcript of records / overview of achievements)
• Appendices 1 and 2 of the application form (incl. module descriptions, if Bachelor's degree not obtained at TU Dresden)
• a copy of the language certificate English B2. For foreign applicants, a copy of the German and English language certificates (if English is not the native language)

Other documents and attachments not listed here (e.g. letter of motivation, job references, internship certificates, certificates of further education, etc.) will not be considered in the application process.

Enclose a stamped, self-addressed postcard with your application if you would like confirmation that your documents have been received. It is not possible to confirm that your documents are complete or to return them. You can check the completeness of your documents yourself using the checklist in the application for aptitude assessment. Applications that are not complete, in the correct form or on time will be excluded from the further procedure.

4. Dispatch of the aptitude and rejection notifications by the HPSTS selection committee

The selection committee will send out aptitude and rejection notifications by mid-August. A letter of aptitude does not constitute admission to the program. If you are suitable, your application will be forwarded to the Admissions Office for further processing. Please note: Notifications will be sent by post around August 15.

5. Ranking of Suitable Applications (Selection Procedure)

In accordance with the selection regulations, the available places are allocated on the basis of the documents submitted. The overall grade of the first professionally qualifying degree certificate, the academic achievements in the thematic core areas and the academic achievements in the basic psychological subjects are assessed.

6. Dispatch of the Letters of Admission by the Admissions Office

The Admissions Office will send out the letters of admission by the end of August. They will be sent digitally. You will find your letter of admission in the selma application portal or in the Uni-assist portal.

7. Acceptance of the Study Place within the Cut-off Period

After receiving the letter of admission, you must send further forms and documents to the Admissions Office of TU Dresden within the deadline specified in the letter of admission and transfer the semester fee. Please note that the deadline in the letter of admission is a cut-off deadline. If the documents are not received by the Admissions Office on time, the entitlement to the study place expires.
