We outline and actively promote opportunities to integrate participatory elements within the larger OLGA project - from the evaluation of different design and use alternatives for areas to be converted and a modelling of preferences and recreational effectiveness, to the involvement of the population in planning and decision-making processes, to their possible participation in the context of citizen science projects or crowdfunding campaigns, insofar as such approaches can be implemented in the other modules. The support can, in particular, consist of defining the necessary qualifications among the citizens involved and creating concepts for suitable qualification offers and media.
Parallel to these application-oriented activities, fundamental scientific questions in the context of participation and citizen science will be dealt with: On the one hand, the possibilities for measuring the quality of participation will be improved by further developing an existing test approach derived from politological approaches to evaluating participation. Scales based on this approach will be tested and continuously improved on the basis of data that can be obtained from participation processes in the project. The aim is to generate an empirically validated survey instrument for the evaluation of participation processes. On the other hand, research is also being conducted on Citizen Science projects, in particular with regard to the attitudes and motivations of citizens to participate in Citizen Science projects.
