Re-registration for the semester
To continue your studies, you must re-register for each semester within the specified re-registration period by transferring the current semester fee and, if applicable, a tuition fee. Please note that the semester fees, in particular, may change each semester in accordance with the current fee regulations of the Studentenwerk or the Student Council. The amounts will always be announced here at the beginning of the current re-registration period. You will find more details on all issues regarding your re-registration and the correct amount to be paid at the end of this page in the FAQs.

If you wish to take a leave of absence from your studies for this semester, you can indicate on your leave of absence application whether you would like to pay the entire semester fee or only the partial fee of EUR 126.82 (without the semester ticket). You can find the application form in selma in the application overview and you need to submit the form by the end of the re-registration period.

Nebenhörer must pay a minimum fee of EUR 14.09 for StuRa/Fachschaft (Student Council/Faculty Student Body) in accordance with the student body's fee regulations and can also purchase the semester ticket if they wish to do so by applying for it using the re-registration form (available under “Applications” in the selma portal). In this case, you must transfer EUR 248.27.

FAQ on re-registration
According to § 11 of TU Dresden's Enrollment Regulations (ImmaO), all students must re-register for each semester in the proper form and by the deadline so that they can continue their studies. If you fail to comply with this requirement, the process of de-registration from your degree program must be initiated in accordance with § 13 ImmaO.
Re-registration involves the timely payment of the semester fee due, as well as any applicable tuition fees. The semester fee is levied in accordance with the fee regulations of Studentenwerk Dresden and the TU Dresden Student Council, as well as the University Fees and Charges Regulations, Annex 1. The fee regulations are subject to constant change, so the current semester fee due is not known until the start of the respective re-registration period.
Once the correct fee has been received, your Campuscard will be activated with all authorizations (e.g. semester ticket) for the new semester. At the same time, your new certificate of enrollment for the upcoming semester will be made available in selma, so that you can print it out and submit it to offices and government agencies.
If you have applied to change your degree program or subject, you should only transfer your semester fee in conjunction with your enrollment.
If you can demonstrate and provide evidence of a valid reason for a leave of absence in accordance with § 12 ImmaO, you must submit an application for a leave of absence instead of re-registering and paying the semester fee. Please note that if you take a leave of absence, you may only have to pay a reduced semester fee. More information on how to apply and the conditions for approval are available on the leave of absence pages.
If you have been enrolled as a student with a secondary enrollment (Nebenhörer), you must download the registration form for re-registration at TU Dresden in selma and send it alongside the current certificate of enrollment of the university at which you are primarily enrolled (Haupthörer) to TU Dresden's enrollment office (see in selma under: Organization of Studies/Application Overview). Moreover, you need to transfer a minimum fee for the Student Council. Please refer to the first FAQ entry for the current fee for secondary enrollment: “What re-registration deadlines apply, and what are the current semester fees to be paid?”
If you have completed your studies at the other university, you must submit an application to change your type of enrollment within the re-registration period. You can find the application under “Application to change my type of enrollment”
Re-registration is usually complete once the semester fee has been credited to the account. It can take 2 to 7 days from the date the transfer is initiated until the amount is credited to the TUD account! Once re-registration is complete, you will receive an email. At the same time, your new certificate of enrollment will be made available for download in selma.
Please note that your re-registration cannot be processed, even if payment has been received correctly, if there are other reasons preventing the re-registration. These may include:
- You have changed your health insurance provider, and the Admissions Office/International Office has not yet received notification from your new statutory health insurance provider regarding your insurance status.
- You have not fulfilled your obligations to the health insurance provider (e.g., regular payment of premiums).
- You have been enrolled on a temporary basis subject to certain conditions and still need to submit specific documents or proof (e.g., a Bachelor's degree certificate).
- You have paid the reduced amount for a leave of absence semester but have not submitted an application for a leave of absence.
Enrollment and, consequently, re-registration for the semester are usually required if admission to an exam is still pending. This is usually the case if
- you have not yet registered for an examined assessment that belongs to a module examination,
- the topic for your final thesis has not yet been assigned,
- in the case of a mandatory colloquium or thesis defense, the result of your final thesis has not yet been determined.
For retaking an exam, admission remains valid, so enrollment or re-registration is not required.
More details, as well as any exceptions to this rule, are specified in § 4 of your degree program's examination regulations.
If you are no longer required to be enrolled, you can de-register at the end of the semester by submitting a request for de-registration (the form is available in selma under “Application Overview”) or wait until you receive official notification from the university of your automatic de-registration if you have not paid the semester fee.
If you have not properly re-registered or taken a leave of absence by the re-registration deadline, you will be automatically de-registered in accordance with § 13 para. 3 no. 2 of TU Dresden's Enrollment Regulations. The notice of de-registration will be stored in selma in the “Documents” folder of your account. You will receive a notification via email sent to your TUD email address. The notice of de-registration contains information on your right to appeal. This allows you to file a written appeal within one month if you had valid reasons for the late re-registration.
If you or the family member through whom you are insured change the health insurance provider, you have to send a new health insurance certificate (in triplicate – as a rule) without delay to the Immatriculation Office / International Academic Office, including details of your matriculation number and your study course.
Your attention is drawn to the possibility that non-presentation of the new health insurance certificate, in accordance with § 13 Section 7 in conjunction with § 6 Section 4 Clause 3 ImmaO, can thereby result in premature ex officio exmatriculation, or in the non re-registration for the new semester.
You can find more information on our health insurance information page.
You can request a refund of the semester fee at the Admissions Office/International Office
- if you have been de-registered before the start of the semester and you had already paid the semester fee for the upcoming semester,
- if you have overpaid,
- if, as a first-year student, you withdraw from your studies before the start of the semester but have already paid your semester fee.
You can only get a refund if you’ve filled out all the required information on the request form and included the necessary supporting documents. You can submit the request yourself!
- You can find the refund request form in selma in the application overview. Alternatively, you can print out the refund request form here.
Requests for refunds after the start of the semester must be submitted directly to the Student Council and to Studentenwerk Dresden. Whether your request is approved depends on the provisions in the relevant fee regulations.

You can change your form of study from full-time to part-time and vice versa if the degree program’s study regulations allow for part-time study. You need to submit the request during the re-registration period using the appropriate request for changing your form of study. You can find information on changing your form of study here.
