Re-registration for the semester
To continue your studies, you must re-register for each semester within the specified re-registration period by transferring the current semester fee and, if applicable, a tuition fee. Please note that the semester fees, in particular, may vary each semester in accordance with the current fee regulations of the Studentenwerk or the Student Council. The amounts will always be announced here at the beginning of the current re-registration period. You will find more details on all issues regarding your re-registration and the correct amount to be paid at the end of this page in the FAQs.

If you wish to take a leave of absence from your studies for this semester, you can indicate on your leave of absence application whether you would like to pay the entire semester fee or only the partial fee of EUR 121.82 (without semester ticket). You can find the application form in selma in the application overview and you need to submit the form by the end of the re-registration period. Once we have received your application by mail and processed it, the Admissions Office/International Office will send you an email asking you to pay the fee.

FAQ for Re-registration
As laid down in § 11 Matriculation Regulations (ImmaO) of the TU Dresden, every student has to re-register for each semester in due time and form to continue his study. In the event that a student does not comply with this obligation, his registration is cancelled in accordance with § 13 ImmaO.
Re-registration is the timely payment of the semester fee as well as the study fee (as appropriate) due. The basis for the semester fee is provided by the Fee Regulations of the Dresden Student Union and the Student Council of the TU Dresden as well as the University Fees Ordinance. As the fee regulations are subject to constant change, the contribution currently payable is always announced only at the beginning of the re-registration period in question.
Once the correct fee has been received, your Campuscard will be activated with all features (e.g. the semester ticket) for the new semester. At the same time, the new enrollment certificate for the coming semester will be available on the selma portal for you to print out for any official matters.
Students enrolled at TU Dresden who want to change their degree program or discipline and have set up a Selma online application do not have to adhere to the re-registration deadlines, but should only transfer their semester fee after the decision on admission has been made.
Provided that you can present and substantiate a pertinent reason for leave of absence in accordance with § 12 ImmaO, you can submit an application for leave of absence instead of initiating the re-registration by payment of the fee. Please note that in the event of leave of absence, a lower semester fee may be payable. More information on the application form as well as the conditions for authorisation is available here.
If you are primarily enrolled at another university and secondarily enrolled at TU Dresden (Nebenhörer), you must download the form for re-registration at TU Dresden on the selma portal and send it alongside your current certificate of enrollment of the university at which you are primarily enrolled (Haupthörer) to the Admissions Office of TU Dresden (see selma under: Organization of Studies/Application Overview).
Moreover, you need to transfer a minimum fee for the Student Council. Please refer to the first FAQ entry for the current fee for secondary enrollment: "What are the re-registration deadlines and what are the current semester fees?"
If you have completed your studies at another university, you must submit an application to change your student status within the re-registration period. You will find the application here under "Application for Change of Student Status"
Re-registration is completed as soon as the semester fee has been transferred to the account of TU Dresden. Please be aware that it can take 2 to 7 days for the amount to be registered in the account of TUD! After the re-registration has been completed, you will be able to access the new certificate of enrollment via selma.
Note that you will not be re-registered despite your transferring of the fee if there are reasons that prevent your re-registration. Such reasons could include:
- You have changed your health insurer and the new medical insurance certificate has not yet been received by the Immatriculation Office / International Academic Office.
- You have not complied with your obligations towards your health insurer (e.g. regular payment of contributions).
- You have been re-registered for a temporary period subject to conditions and have not yet presented certain documents or verifications required (e.g. Bachelor certificate).
- Although you have paid the reduced fee for a semester on leave, you have not, however, submitted an application for leave of absence.
Enrolment and thus re-registration for the semester is usually required if admission to an examination is still pending. This is usually the case if
- there has not been a registration for any exam work within a module exam,
- the topic for the final thesis has not yet been issued,
- in the case of an obligatory colloquium or defense, the result of the thesis is not yet known.
For the repetition of an examination, the admission remains valid, so that no enrolment/re-registration is required.
More precise or possibly existing deviations from the rule are regulated in § 4 of the examination regulations of the degree programme.
If you are no longer obliged to enrol, you can have yourself de-registered at the end of the semester by submitting an application for exmatriculation or wait until you receive official notification of your exmatriculation from the university, provided you have not transferred the semester fee.
If you have not properly re-registered (or applied for leave of absence) before the deadline for re-registration, then you will be ex officio exmatriculated (de-registered) by the TU Dresden in accordance with § 13 Section 3 Clause 2 Matriculation Regulations. You will be notified of the exmatriculation in writing at your postal address. The exmatriculation notification includes a legal remedy, which entitles you to lodge an objection in writing within a period of one month if you had pertinent reasons for the delayed re-registration.
Please note that in such cases, no further reminder – apart from a circular to the TUD email address of the students – will be sent.
If you or family members, who are included in the insurance, change your health insurer, you have to send a new health insurance certificate (in triplicate – as a rule) without delay to the Immatriculation Office / International Academic Office, including details of your matriculation number and your study course.
Your attention is drawn to the possibility that non-presentation of the new health insurance certificate, in accordance with § 13 Section 7 in conjunction with § 6 Section 4 Clause 3 ImmaO, can thereby result in premature ex officio exmatriculation, or in the non re-registration for the new semester.
More information on the student health insurance is available here.
Applications for reimbursement of the semester fee can be submitted to the Immatriculation Office / International Office:
- if the exmatriculation ensues before the beginning of the semester and the semester fee has already been paid for this coming semester,
- if too much has been paid,
- if a new student withdraws from the study course before the beginning of the semester, but has already paid his semester fee.
Reimbursement can only ensue if all the details required in the application were specified and the associated documents required are included. This application can only be submitted by the student concerned! The application form is available in the Student Portal under [Applications].
Applications for reimbursement after the beginning of the semester are to be submitted directly to the Student Council and Student Union Dresden. Whether or to what extent these applications are then approved, is determined in accordance with the respective fee regulations.
