General information for the course
Classical Philology is dedicated to the antique languages - Greek and Latin. Captivating world literature texts (histories, drama, epic, elegy, philosophic and rhetoric literature, novel, satire etc.) are analysed regarding their linguistic presentation and their content. Didactic and methodological approaches will foster students' skills to decode, interpret and recode. Apart from the enjoyment of reading those texts, the command and comprehension of one's own native language is considerably augmented. The same holds true for Romanic languages in particular, but also for English and other languages. Furthermore, an understanding based on sound linguistic, historical and cultural competencies will reveal the importance of Europe in new dimensions of space and time.
