Admission requirements
An entry requirement for the Master's degree programme Philosophy is a German or equivalent foreign Bachelor degree that qualifies for a profession in Philosophy, an other Bachelor degree with the subsidiary subject of Philosophy, a teaching degree for the subject Ethics / Philosophy, each with content of philosophy (at least 63 credits (ECTS)), or a related degree.
Futhermore, knowledge of two foreign languages, including English at level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), as well as the second foreign language on level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) or knowledge of Latin, has to be proven. Notes to the required language skills The proof is effected by presenting the university entrance qualification and successfully passed languages classes.

Application hints and tips
If, at the time of application, proof of the first degree qualifying the applicant for a profession is not yet available, the application will be considered under the precondition that 80% of the credit points attainable for the degree have already been achieved based on completed module examinations or the final thesis and the colloquium (if applicable). A certification from the awarding institute of higher education (examination office) serves as proof of the above-mentioned academic achievements. General information for the degree programme
The research-oriented master´s programme in philosophy offers students the chance to acquire profound knowledge of the field, choose a specialisation and expand their knowledge through an interdisciplinary profile area. The programme introduces students to current philosophical research issues. Furthermore, it enables students to identify, understand and discuss the central discourses of philosophical research and to detect and create connections between the various philosophical subject areas: science and social practice, science and technology, nature and culture, art and technology, culture and history, etc.
The course of study consists of two mandatory modules ("Theoretical Philosophy" and "Practical Philosophy"), two mandatory electives ("Philosophy of Science and Technology", "Philosophy of Culture and Religion" or "History of Philosophy”) and two modules from one of the following interdisciplinary profile areas: "Media and Publicity", "Regional Identity and Cultural Transfer", "Religion and Society", "Gender and Culture" or "Knowledge and Technology". The fourth semester is dedicated to the preparation of a master´s thesis.
