Diversity in Teaching
Table of contents
Welcome to the Diversity in Teaching web pages. These aim to support teaching staff with making courses at TU Dresden more diversity-friendly. In addition to the diversity competence in university instruction self-assessment and the Inclusive University Instruction independent study course, you will find useful information and links on the topic of diversity-friendly teaching.
Self-Assessment: Diversity Competence in University Instruction
The self-assessment is designed to support you in assessing your level of diversity competence in university instruction. Firstly, it should accompany you as you reflect on aspects of diversity in your teaching practices. Secondly, it should encourage continued growth in this area.
The test is divided into two sections. In the first section, you will be introduced to various topics related to diversity and then asked to assess your knowledge about them. The second section focuses on the diversity-sensitive learning environment. You will also have the opportunity to test your knowledge and receive tips on designing diversity-friendly courses.

Independent Study Course: Inclusive University Instruction
This independent study course teaches you the basics of inclusive university instruction in an understandable and practical way. Inclusive university instruction does not refer to a specialized, niche expertise. It only requires a few changes to your teaching practices to allow each and every student to fully participate, and it supports all students with reaching their full potential.
Once you have completed the independent study course, you will also be familiar with the significance of inclusion for university instruction and you will have acquired strategies for dismantling educational barriers.

The Independent Study Course is recognized as part of the Saxon University Didactics Certificate in the area of Active Teaching (Sächsisches Hochschuldidaktik-Zertifikat plus “AKTiver Lehre“) and counts as 10 work units. We are currently clarifying if the course will be recognized as part of module 2 of the Saxon University Didactics Certificate for the Area of Diversity, Equal Opportunity & International Affairs (“Vielfalt, Chancengleichheit & Internationales“).
