Have you already had exciting conversations about our democracy today?
The Science Year 2024 invites us to enter into a dialog about our democratic coexistence and actively help shape our society. But how do we have constructive conversations about democracy? How do we take a clear stance against anti-democratic attitudes? And what role do diversity and inclusion play in this?
This year's Diversity Days offer the opportunity to discuss these and many other questions and discover new ways of participating.
Under the motto "Dialogue builds bridges: Together for diversity and democracy", there will be a varied program between 4 and 8 November together with various cooperation partners.
You can look forward to a week full of inspiring workshops, cultural events such as films or plays and exciting hands-on activities. The focus of many events is on exchange and discussion, as this is the only way we can learn from each other!

We, the team of the project "Democratic freedom - gain, experience, preserve", are pleased to offer this interactive event. Our aim is to create a space for exchange between science and society and to promote the understanding of democracy.
Enlightened and informed citizens are crucial for a resilient and vibrant democracy that takes into account the diverse life situations of all stakeholders. That's why we want to test your knowledge of democracy in a playful way - and don't worry, it's not about making a fool of yourself! Rather, the focus is on collaborative puzzles and team discussions.
Our democracy quiz is the perfect opportunity to learn more about the basics and subtleties of our democratic society in a relaxed atmosphere. - The TUD project "Democratic freedom - gaining, experiencing, preserving" in the Science Year 2024 (Liane Drößler, Monique Rust)
The BMBF Science Year 2024 is dedicated to illuminating the topic of "freedom" in all its facets for a whole year. The TUD is involved in the project "Democratic Freedom - Achieving, Experiencing, Preserving", which is coordinated by the Unit University and Society (Directorate University Culture). With a course offered in the studium generale, a hands-on festival in Prohlis, discussion events and social media formats, the project creates spaces to discuss democracy and aspects of freedom with people of different ages. - Out of the ivory tower with university research in tow - democracy education in the field of extracurricular youth and adult education (Nele Mai)
Civil society needs university. The anchoring of the John Dewey Research Center for the Didactics of Democracy at TU Dresden is therefore something very special. The research center sees itself as an innovation center in the field of political education. It supports Saxon stakeholders in extracurricular education in the didactic preparation, new development and reflective evaluation of their offers against the background of a challenging social situation. JoDDiD has now been around for 4 years: High time to look back and share our experiences from the last few years with you using concrete examples. The certificate program aims to make the generic term diversity more tangible and shed light on the benefits of diversity-sensitive action for everyone. The program offers tools for recognizing prejudices, questioning structural disadvantages and promoting respectful communication. In workshops, e-learning sessions and reflection discussions, participants are supported in creating networks for mutual development. -
A century for the good of the child? Child welfare and children's rights in Europe from 1924 to 2024 (Dr. Agnes Anna Arndt)
Based on the Geneva Declaration on the Rights of the Child, which is currently celebrating its 100th anniversary, the research project led by Dr. Agnes Anna Arndt examines the development of children's rights from 1924 to 2024 in their global, national and local interrelationships. The lecture will show which impulses can be gained from the historical examination of the development of children's rights for current problems in child and youth welfare and how these impulses can contribute to strengthening the educational opportunities of politically responsible adolescents.

The relevance of adaptable teaching and learning spaces in (higher) education lies in creating an environment that supports the diversity of learners and students and is geared towards the needs of those using the space. This concept promotes an inclusive learning climate based on equal opportunities and mutual respect.

The workshop will present the "Inclusive Teaching-Learning Space" project, which aims to strengthen positive perspectives on inclusive learning. Participants will have the opportunity to get to know and try out various materials and digital instruments such as live transcription tools, VR technology, feedback methods and visualization techniques. The subsequent discussion will reflect on the participatory and diversity-sensitive potential of this spatial concept, but also on the new barriers that may be created as a result.

The course offers you the chance to explore the challenges of everyday life in a wheelchair in a fun way. In doing so, we would like to inspire you to adopt new perspectives and together promote greater understanding and openness to diversity.
What do wheelchairs have to do with democracy? Democracy thrives on the exchange and participation of all people. Through the wheelchair course, we create an opportunity to consciously deal with the daily challenges that people with mobility impairments experience. This not only promotes empathy, but also the basis for a democratic discourse in which different perspectives are heard and understood.
Together, we are shaping a future in which inclusion and appreciation for all people take center stage.

We are showing the award-winning film "We are young. We are strong.".
The film sheds light on the events surrounding the xenophobic riots in Rostock-Lichtenhagen in 1992 and impressively shows how prejudices, peer pressure and social tensions can escalate. But it goes far beyond that: it holds up a mirror to us and calls on us to reflect on our own responsibility in society.

Why this movie? Because it shows how important it is to seek dialog, build bridges and stand up together for diversity and democracy. Especially in times when exclusion and hatred are on the rise again in many parts of the world, we want to use this film to encourage reflection - and create a space for open discussion.

Does (ESD) deliver what we need for a transformation of society? Does ESD want more than it can do?
ESD plays an important role in the implementation of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (Agenda 2030) and should be anchored at all levels of education. In adult education in Saxony, however, there are hardly any offers in both non-formal education and formal education that critically train stakeholders and teachers in the field of ESD/global learning and bring together educational stakeholders from different areas.
We would like to start closing this gap and offer a first training program on ESD, which also focuses on global perspectives in a targeted manner, for adult education stakeholders (university teachers and stakeholders in development education) in Saxony.

The focus is on the development of inclusive learning opportunities for the in-service qualification of teachers. The experiences gathered during the workshop days show how self-determined, exploratory learning can be promoted through digital and hybrid formats. In particular, teachers who are dependent on flexible learning opportunities for health or time reasons benefit from barrier-free and individually adapted digital learning opportunities. The aim of the event is to share experiences and jointly identify future-oriented potential for teacher training.

Arguing for democracy - showing attitude in educational work
Communicating a democratic attitude is one of the central tasks of teachers. But what can teachers do when students or colleagues confront them with anti-democratic and discriminatory statements? The workshop will give you the opportunity to get to know and try out communication strategies that are helpful when dealing with anti-democratic statements. We will also ask ourselves together what neutrality the professional role requires - and what does not.

International Coffee Hour - Come Together & Find International Friends
Every Wednesday during the semester, the International Coffee Hour invites you to the Studentenwerksforum (Schnorrstraße 10, 01069 Dresden) from 5 to 7 pm.

Here you can get to know new people and cultures in a relaxed atmosphere with snacks and drinks. Since 2004, the Studentenwerk Dresden has been offering this program as a meeting place for German and international students.
Each week has an exciting motto: whether it's country evenings, team challenges or excursions - there's something for everyone. Two student tutors accompany the events and help you to make contacts, especially with our international guests.

The film was voted one of the 100 best films of the 21st century by the BBC and deals with poverty, dreams of advancement and sexual awakening in an impressive and authentic way.
Films like Fish Tank make it possible to gain insights into different realities of life and thus offer a valuable platform for social exchange and democratic participation by addressing social issues.

The research project Technische Hochschule under National Socialism cordially invites you to a special campus tour along Mommsenstraße.
This street, named after the famous classical scholar and Nobel Prize winner Theodor Mommsen in 1904, originally marked the southern boundary of the Technische Hochschule campus. Today, central TU Dresden buildings are located here, including the Rectorate Building, the Old Refectory and the Günther Landgraf Building.
The historians Christoph Sauer and Hagen Schönrich will give you an insight into the eventful history and architecture of these buildings. You will also have the opportunity to explore the interiors of the buildings.

Program DIE BÜHNE
Independently of the Diversity Days,DIE BÜHNE offers a play with live audio description, which we would like to draw your attention to here. This opportunity promotes the participation of people with visual impairments and underlines the importance of inclusion as part of diversity. It sends out a strong signal for a democratic society in which accessibility and equal opportunities are a matter of course for everyone.
1910, North-West France: There is excitement in the surrounding villages because news has hit the headlines: Madame Gris and her legendary circus troupe are in town! Aurelie is tempted to join them. But what she doesn't see, what no one sees, is the carousel on which the five travelers ride through their shared nightmare - because at the fair, time stands still and whoever signs the contract is bound for life. Some voices whisper that the real Madame never existed - others were inexplicably never heard from again.
In a theatrical language of drama, performance, light design and puppetry, we follow in the footsteps of a sinister group of circus people who are only alive because a memory drives them into the future. Taddeus Ehrhardt, Franziska Körner and Emilia Zalewska have composed their own stage music for this fantastic play.
